Will never happen.  Makes for rival blog fodder though, that's for sure
2  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Today was a sad day in the Pirate house on: December 13, 2012, 06:08:52 EST
I'm so sorry to hear that - we love our dogs too, and had to put one down a few years ago.  I know that's tough ...
3  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: May I Add To The Rumor Mill? on: December 06, 2012, 09:17:28 EST
He hired Franklin and tried to implement a spread style offense with players that weren't recruited for that style of offense - among other things - he and Lowder & Dye didn't see eye to eye either from what I've been told.  Anyway, took him at his word since he knows more about UT than I do - a new name though, and with SEC connections - would be interesting ...
4  Sports / VTTW Message Board / May I Add To The Rumor Mill? on: December 06, 2012, 09:14:53 EST
UT buddy of mine just called and asked if I was sitting down, and I said yes - he said - "I think its going to be Tommy Tuberville".  Guess we'll see ... interesting ....
5  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I'm Surprised ... on: December 06, 2012, 06:43:32 EST
LOL - Rich Rod?  Dunno - thought Mal used him masterfully as a smokescreen for Saban .... I think he's broadcasting, or working on cars or somthing.  Oh, no ... he's at Arizona.  My bad

I thought that of the four SEC jobs, the UT opening was the most attractive - and certianly moreso than Purdue, Colorado, NC State, and others - since I'm not on the pulse of "The Hill" - thought I'd post my surprise - nothing more ....
6  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I'm Surprised ... on: December 06, 2012, 06:27:45 EST
Hey all - this is NOT a flame post, OK - I'm frankly surprised though that Kentucky, Arkansas, and especially Auburn, filled their HC positions before UT.  Cal grabbs Dykes today.  NC State .... UT doesn't have the baggage of Auburn, and greater tradition than UK, NCSt, Cal, Purdue, and others.  What in the world is going on up there?
7  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So how do y'all think the SECCG will go? on: November 29, 2012, 06:37:05 EST
Here's how I see it - and being a Bama homer, this says something IMO - I made the Mano A Mano playoffs this year, and for my 1 point pick, I took UGA and the 7 1/2 points.  Yep, I let discretion be the better part of valor, puked all over my ballot, and submitted it

If Murray can throw with success against Bama's 3rd cover corner in the nickel - it's going to be a long day.  They will run no huddle on us, and it will be difficult to adjust.  We don't have the pass rush that we've had in recent years, so I don't expect to pressure Murray much - however I do expect our front four and LBs to contain their rushing attack.

I see a conservative, ball control attack from Bama, with Yeldon and Lacey wearing down the UGA D 4 - 10-6 at half, 13-13 at the end of the 3rd, with Bama pulling it out by game's end 20-16.

You do realize that Mike Riley is an Alabama alum, correct?
10  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How do you think the LSU-Alabama game will go? on: October 31, 2012, 07:24:32 EDT
Bandit - you got me - I've heard more rumor, hearsay and conspiracy theory about it than anything else -bottom line, either by comission or omission - Les was an idiot for at least not TRYING Jarret Lee when Jefferson was a deer in the headlights.  Zach Mettenberger hasn't exactly wow'd me this year - in fact, a UGA buddy of mine said on Monday that "Mettenberger is the worst recruit that anyone has ever stolen from us" - I had to laugh a bit when he said that ....
11  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The job will be Gruden's to turn down...but if he does turn it down on: October 31, 2012, 03:43:32 EDT
While anything is possible - I personally don't expect to keep Kirby for much longer - but - I also don't expect that any SEC school, including UGA where he's from - will give someone their first HC gig.  I think that Charlie Strong may wind up at Auburn, or even UT (never know) - or Kentucky - he'll land somewhere - I also think Butch Jones from Cincinnati will be snatched up by a bigger school - and Kirby Smart will probably be offered the HC at one of those schools - a lower level D1 program, where he can prove his mettle and then find his way into an SEC, Big 10, or Big 12 kind of gig.

I wonder if LSU has figured out yet that the football field is actually more than 50 yards long
13  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Nothing to see here! Move along! on: October 26, 2012, 03:57:33 EDT
Oh ... I know ... something of which I'm constantly reminded - by email, within the fliers that come with my order blanks, etc.  The U of A does a fine job in making me aware of how even I .... little ol' me .... am considered a booster, and the ramifications thereof.
14  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Nothing to see here! Move along! on: October 25, 2012, 08:42:26 EDT
Got me.  There was a kid who transferred to Clay Chalkville High School last year - wasn't eligible at Huffman, transferred across town to CCHS and played for them.  CCHS was undefeated and by all rights, would have been the state champion last year.  AHSAA researched the matter, declared the kid ineligible, and vacated ALL of CCHS wins - officially, the finished 0-12.

IE - I know the state (AHSAA) takes this stuff seriously.  Saw it happen in my own backyard.  If AHSAA has already cleared the kid at Foley (which they supposedly have) - and if such vetting involves the review of transcripts - then I really don't see anything here other than a scorned DC at a FL high school who posts on a chat board under an Aubie moniker.

JMT ...

FWIW - Saban has a history of coming off kids when trouble has arisen - most recently, with a kid who was charged with rape - pulled his offer and took him completely off the board.

Bandit - I don't take anyone lightly.  Ask Emeril - he thought I was blowing sunshine when I suggested that the score of Saturday's game would be in the 31-17 range - with it being 24-17 into the 4th quarter, and we picked up a late TD kind of thing.  By the numbers - we really haven't been tested by anyone yet.  UT's pass offense and Michigan's rushing offense have been about the closest thing we've had so far to being "tested".  MSU is undefeated for a reason.  I'm just glad we have them at home.

"This case is over and done with," Watson said. "The AHSAA and NCAA have both looked into his transfer and found nothing wrong."

According to the PNJ, Shellang and Washington High athletic director Troy Faucheaux were issued official letters of reprimand by their school district for violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act for publicly revealing private information about Paige's academic standing.

Public documents revealed that Faucheaux posted information about Paige's academic standing on the website secrant.com under the alias "tigerbait65."

Infante points out that even if Pruitt did suggest to Paige that he should transfer for academic purposes, it still would not be considered an NCAA violation.

"Now if the answers are 'Alabama told him to transfer to fix his academics' that is not by itself a problem. The biggest thing I think the NCAA is after is some background information for when Paige has to be certified academically."

I would have to agree ... nothing to see here
17  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: After sleeping on it on: October 25, 2012, 07:00:53 EDT
LOL - I know .... frankly I'm not worried about anyone other than MSU at this point.  LSU isn't the same team as they were last year, and UF is vastly better than I anticipated.  Although - UF's run to pass mix is still roughly 67% run, so they're one dimensional.  We'll see if UGA can do anything with that on Saturday.

Skeert of Oregon?  And the Nation's #82 passing offense?  Surely you jest!

We fared pretty well against UT's passing offense ranked #28 in the country ...

@ Inspector - no, the latter - just poking some good natured fun with tailgate friends of years past - like I said in another thread, I honestly hope that you guys to land Gruden, or some other high profile coach.  Doesn't bother me a bit, and frankly it would only add to the strength of the SEC
20  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Do you think if Gruden is hired,He can salvage the 2013 recruiting class? on: October 24, 2012, 03:33:52 EDT
High school recruits with asperations of playing in the NFL, will likely be more impressed with multiple NCAA national championship rings I would think than one lone Super Bowl ring.  Besides, wasn't Gruden fired from Oakland and Tampa Bay?

I'm all about ring tapping - but it occurs to me that if ring tapping were the secret to landing recruits - Nick has three of 'em

Hey ...... maybe you're on to something
22  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hearing a little smoke that on: October 24, 2012, 03:01:11 EDT
Bandit - Yea, I'll play.  None of the above.  Saban will retire from the University of Alabama.

A) He's been the NFL route.  Coaches like him and Spurrier are not cut out for the business of the NFL.  Saban took a pay cut to come to Alabama, not to rebuild a dynasty - but to "coach" young impressionable men, make leaders out of them, get them to play to a standard, etc - that's what makes him tick.  The NFL is about ego and paychecks.  His coaching style didn't fit either time, and he won't go that route again.

B) Texas would be a step down.  They play in a lousy conference, and right now, Alabama is the most prestigious gig in college football.  We've won two of the last three national titles - he's got pages and pages of blue chip recruits who want to play at Alabama - he can choose, more than recruit.  Why would he start over again at Texas?  Yea, they have big money men ........ so do we ...... and frankly, its not about the money in the first place.

C) I wish Tennessee all the best and I hope that you land Gruden, or some other high profile coach.  Frankly, UT isn't the kind of program that should be posting sub .500 records.  UT, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida - are all synonymous with deep, rich, winning football tradition.  I hope you guys get back to that threshold soon.  And FWIW - that is a sincere comment, not thinly veiled smack.  Hiring Gruden doesn't intimidate me in the least as a Bama fan - I hope you get him, and I hope he turns UT around into a 10+ win per year program in short order.

D) Saban has his cake and can eat it too right where he is.  There have been reasons in the past for leaving Toledo, Cleveland, Michigan State, LSU - all of those were moves up.  Leaving Miami was a move BACK to where he wanted to be.  Anything from here would be a step down relative to what he has.  Nope - I see him staying for another 5 yeras and then retiring.

LOL - its tough being facetious on this board

No, there has only been one brick to my knowledge thrown through a coach's window, and that was in 1989.  After we lost to Auburn for a fourth time and the Independence Bowl to OSU in 2006 however, I was ready to heave the second .......

Since then, its just been gathering dust and dead bugs .... can clean off and ship northward if needed

LOL!  Well, I have a brick that hasn't been used in about half a decade that I can ship to you if you need it
