Title: Why do NFL teams have to kick the XP at the end of a playoff game?....
Post by: droner on January 16, 2018, 12:35:47 EST
I can understand it during the regular season when points scored against a certain opponent might factor into some tie breaker in the standings or when there is a one or two point difference in the score and the defensive team has a chance to block the kick and run it back for two.

But in a playoff game when the clock has expired and the point difference is three or more, it doesn't make any sense to kick the XP. Especially when the other team has beat a hasty retreat off of the field. Why did they have to come back? Couldn't Minnesota just line up and take a knee without the Saints being on the field?

Betting line is the reason....as in Vegas and bookmakers. Line at kickoff was 5.5......that non extra point cost a lot of money.

If that's the reason I bet the NFL doesn't admit it. Pun intended.

Most coaches could give a shizzle about betting lines and in that situation will almost always take a knee to prevent injuries.
