Great article. Al was in fact a leader.
And this...
The whole time I was at Coach Chavis's, all he talked about was his days at UT. I could see in his eyes that he misses it. He misses it a whole lot. He didn't want to leave there, but he had to and he's done big things at a new place. But you can tell Tennessee is still a special place for him."
He wasn't perfect, but the man can coach D.

Yes, like all schools they have good fans and bad. What I'm saying is that at THIS point in time, the good fans are the outliers, not the other way around. I've seen it firsthand here in Chattanooga. Most of their "fans" at present couldn't find Tuscaloosa on a map. Ask them who Saban's predecessor was, and they're likely to say "Bear Bryant", if they can answer at all. When bammer returns to earth, most of these people will find another team (or, more likely, a NASCAR driver) to root for, and only the "good" fans will remain.
Oh I completely agree.

TMC, Encore, AMC, and several other "movie channel" are part of the package, Bandid.
Okay thanks. That actually helps a bit. When I had the premium channels free for 3 months they made me call to cancel them or start paying for them...they were not dropped automatically. The person I talked to did not speak English as a firstlanguage and was not very helpful in figuring out what I was left with, so I was never sure if I had the top package with one residual premium channel or not. I'm going to call Dish tomorrow and threaten to quit. I have been pretty lackadaisical about that, lol.

Anyone use Dish? If so, what package do you have, how long is your contract, and how much does it cost?
I got a sweet deal last year when I switched from Direct. They gave me all the premium channels free for 3 months, and my rate for those first three months was $43 for the Gold package that HTK described. After three months it went up to $58 and I lost all the premiums except TMC. I have Encore, but not sure if that's premium...don't think so. I think TMC and Encore are included in the package I have, which...although I call it gold, it's the top of the four basic packages they offer with no extras. My bill a couple months ago went up to right at $100 and I have yet to renegotiate it. I need to do that. I only have two minor complaints...the Dish rewind feature is a bit glitchy compared to Direct and Dish also provides less information on movies with the "info" feature. But I believe a similar package with Direct would be $15-20 more, so I am quite happy. Those

LOL! My issue is not that he might die, but that he isn't, in my opinion, making any effort to seriously finish. I caught shizzle from Volveeta for calling him a lazy slob, but that is in fact what I believe. And Veeta...feel free to call me out for that again, but PLEASE for the love of God, DO NOT COMPARE THIS MAN TO JRR TOLKIEN!!!! Tolkien towers over GRRM by...I dunno, the size of the universe? GRRM is, IMO a bit of a hack. Tolkien wrote one of the greatest works of all time, GRRM something that plays well on HBO where characters can freely cuss and they show a lot of titties. IMO....

I don't know if we can get to 6-6. I am about as unconcerned about this season as any since I have been a Vol fan. I am mostly fired up about our recruiting rankings. We were 4th in Rivals this year and so far are 5th for next year. That is what it's going to take. If the 2015 class holds up we will be much improved in 2015 and could be really good in 2016. In the meantime, I expect to take some more lumps this year. I feel like the players who survived last year grew from it and I think we build more character this year. I am optimistic about the future with Butch...very optimistic. Not so much for this season, but I will be rooting for the team all the way. 6-6 will be a pleasant surprise, anything better and my optimism for the future next couple years will be off the charts.

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't want our guys giving bulletin board material to an opponent. But after they lost their shizzle and whined like little girls over the "red team" thing last year (something that wasn't even trash talk- the exact opposite actually), I'm all for tweaking this particular opponent as much as possible. What are they going to do, beat us worse? Exactly. But they did hire that hot new OC.

I think he showed some grit in midseason last year before getting injured. Some of the passes against Uga and USC jr were inspiring, for want of a better word. He might not look all that great throwing the ball but he finally did start making some plays. If can at least do that for us this year, there could be some pleasant surprises.

I don't watch the NBA, but how did LeBron going to Miami "damage" the NBA?
It caused quite a stir. Many hated Miami as a result, although certain others loved them. I think the hate was bigger though. My opinion is it highlighted the league's blatant favoritism towards big market teams and made it quite obvious. The league has apparently decided that LeBron going back to Cleveland is a great story. No coincidence they got all those no. 1 picks. And yeah...conspiracy theory. But I saw Bill Simmons reaction live on the air to the no. 1 "lottery" pick this year and he pretty much came out and said in so many words it was rigged.

My opinion is that the new commish realizes the damage that LeBron to Miami did to begin with and has taken steps to correct it. I think he is taking a different approach than Schtern, but in either case, protecting the NBA's image is seen as paramount. Still...I like the new commish better than Schtern. Well enough to start watching more? Not yet, but maybe there is hope. I am just glad Schtern is gone.

Yeah, but you say things like this as if the talent stacked on that roster is coincidental and has nothing to do with Saban. Building that kind of roster is a big part of what makes him a great coach.
Yes....he didn't have that kind of talent at LSU though. And speaking of which, I never said he wasn't a good coach. He is. He won at LSU with good talent, he won his first NC at bammer with good talent. But since then, has had simply great talent, beyond anything ever seen in NCAA football history. Astonishing, draw dropping talent. Talent anyone could win with. It's not just his "recruiting prowess" either. Yes, he has such a winning personality, he just charms those kids into coming to bammer.

Right. We had mediocre overall talent and little depth. Granted he had a great recruiting year after his first season, but the difference between his first year's team and the second year was dramatic. Yes, he can coach and develop players, and that's why many want to play for him.
BG
Shula was not a terrible recruiter, he had some top ten classes. Just an awful game day coach.
