And let me add...I am fizzleING SICK of hearing about Leeeebron.  The Spurs win in an amazing display, and the next day the lead on ESPN is "what do the Heat do now"?

So tired of the transparent promotion of big TV market teams over the integrity of the league.  "What sells" is a far cry from "what's right".

I just wish the freaking media would SHUT THE fizzle UP about that Leeebron because I fizzleING DON"t GIVE  fizzleING shizzle!!!!

(rant over)

Doesn't care for the NBA, but the Heat are getting absolutely embrassed in the finals with the Super team they are supposed to have. I'm all Memphis Grizz and I probably should hate the Spurs , but I just like the way they handle themselves.

GO VOLS!!!

I freaking hate the Heat, love the Pacers, and like the Spurs, so it was GREAT to watch that display.

That look on LeeeBron's face, when he got called for five OBVIOUS fouls in game 5 vs. the Pacers?  "Oh shizzle, Stern doesn't have my back anymore. Dammit!"

Oh no, but it's just that everyone is JEALOUS of Calipari and wants to bring him down.  There is no evidence of cheating at UK!  World Wide Wes is just an innocent bystander and Nike has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

But haters gonna hate, you know?

9830  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Amazon is unveiling a new smartphone right now... on: June 23, 2014, 04:50:50 EDT
If Amazon is going to make any sort of profitable bite into the smartphone market at this late stage of the game, it's going to take quite a significant uphill battle to do so. Given that, it's hard for me to wrap my mind around the notion that a business genius like Jeff Bezos would limit the Fire Phone to the Amazon app store rather than the full Google app store. You don't have to get past the fact that the Fire Phone won't support the YouTube app for me to decide that I'm not gonna buy it.

Ah, he's just getting cocky and sloppy.  Amazon is perpetually one of the least profitable companies in the world, yet investors continue to pour mountains of cash into it.  He is an amazing salesman is all.  When people stop buying his BS, Amazon will crash and crash hard.

IMO.

No its basically a phone on steroids with links to Amazon that make it easier for you to buy from them......

The only drawback is that its AT&T only....I would not have AT&T as my cellular provider if it was FREE!!!!!!

I'm with you on that brother!  fizzle AT&T!!! They fizzleed me first, so....
9833  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What do you think about the Fargo Finale? I was kinda disappointed. on: June 23, 2014, 04:43:31 EDT
Well, here's my somewhat "supernatural" theory.  Malvo was possessed by the devil or something all along.  I think they made that evident last week with his "I haven't had pie like this since the Garden of Eden" line.  When he stepped in the bear trap and suffered his crippling injury, the devil left his body in search of a new host.  Maybe that's why he didn't seem to recognize Gus, even when he told him that he had figured out his riddle.

This series is supposedly going to continue, with a new story, new cast of characters, and a new locale every season.  But maybe the common thread will be whatever dark force was driving Malvo to commit his heinous acts.

Hm.  Okay, that explains next season. I don't know about the supernatural part, but it does seem to fit the flow.  Interesting.
9834  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What do you think about the Fargo Finale? I was kinda disappointed. on: June 23, 2014, 04:42:10 EDT
I thought it was fine. Two sorry deaths for two sorry individuals. It would been too easy to have them, especially Malvo, to die in some glorious Klingon battle.

But I understand your way of thinking. It seems that there's hardly ever a great show that ends totally satisfactorily. I guess we just expect too much.

I agree.  But I am thinking its a one off, right? I mean, what can they do now, other than start over with new characters?

I liked the end, and in fact thought the plot got out of hand and was actually glad they wrapped it up.  Yes, it was an anticlimatic end for Malvo, but the little fizzleer deserved anticlimatic.  What an ass hole!
9835  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Okay folks be honest. How many of you follow soccer or give a rats butt on: June 23, 2014, 04:36:05 EDT
Soccer is amazingly boring to watch.  I don't watch it much myself, but I DO play it and even run a soccer league on the local military base.  It's a great way to stay in shape and really fun to play, I say.

As for watching it...even with the fact that I play it, I only watch it during USA national games, with rare exceptions.  LOL!  That speaks volumes.

But in the meantime, I had a great time at the local "Straight to Ale" brewery owned partially by a good buddy of mine, drinking some fine brews and cheering on the USA with about 500 other people, and I would not trade that experience for anything.

As for the rest, of course American football and basketball are much more exciting to watch.  But I would put soccer ahead of baseball any day.  At least there is action and not a bunch of standing around!  Soccer is about even with hockey, and IMO since many more people play soccer it will or probably already has surpassed hockey for "no 4" (behind the "big three" of football, basketball, and baseball, and that's about all it can aspire to in this country, IMO, though it may eventually challenge baseball (by FAR the most boring game!) for number 3.

Having said that, I completely understand people not giving a shizzle about it, because it is rather boring to watch, though it helps if you understand the game, and how the flow actually resembles football drives, and that the scoring is like football in the 30s.  But ... yeah, it's pretty hard to watch most of the time!

In the meantime, Go USA!  I think we advance.
9836  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Okay folks be honest. How many of you follow soccer or give a rats butt on: June 23, 2014, 04:27:09 EDT

Yeah.  EXACTLY.  Says a lot more about Knoxville than it does soccer.

I mean, SERIOUSLY.  The world is bigger than East Tennessee.  Reminds me of a Faulkner novel I just read.  Ha ha!  Perfect.

It seems like Argentina was a darkhorse favorite last time also, and they didn't do much.

Underwhelmed with them today also.  All anyone can talk about is how Messi is the new Maradonna and it's just like 1994 all over again, but I don't see it.  I think they go out in the semis or even the quarters.

It's between Germany and Brazil IMO.

9841  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Game Of Thrones headed down the homestretch this season... on: June 04, 2014, 11:11:25 EDT
Well it is a valid concern that GRRM will kick the bucket.  That already happened to me with the "Wheel of Time" series.  You want to talk complex?  That one went...I can't even remember, either 13 or 14 volumes.  The last of which had to be written by a friend of the author who passed away.  I have yet to read that final installment, but might get around to it eventually.

I am being harsh deliberately by calling him a fat slob.  But...although I don't follow him on twitter, fan sites complain that he is constantly twittering about the delicious chicken wings he just had or the football game he just watched  (um, dude, ....aren't you supposed to be writing????).  And when pressed on why it takes so long to write, he gets defensive and angry.  He also attends all kinds of paid appearances and works closely with HBO.  He has pretty much stated that he is only going to concentrate on finishing as much as he wants.

So I think it's fair game to take a shot at him.  He has other priorities, fine.  But he does appear sloppy and unmotivated to this observer.

Most of them have several all ready.

I've been on more than a few (747-400/200, A-340, A-330, BBJ (737-700), A-319, etc) ...

Yes, one of my buddies that thinks its still intact actually said he saw pictures of airports in the Maldives that...gasp...had 747s on them.  Words fail me.
9843  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Game Of Thrones headed down the homestretch this season... on: June 02, 2014, 06:25:10 EDT
GRRM is a fat slob who needs to get his head out of his arse.  He will never finish.  I think he dies of congestive heart failure first, but we will see.  Ever wonder why there are so many detailed descriptions of delicious food in GOT?  To the point that it even makes me hungry reading it sometimes....just take a look at his picture.

In the meantime, I need to go ahead and pick up HBO for a month or two so I can get up to speed on GOT and True Detective.  Then drop it again for a year.

9844  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Any theories as to why the Malaysian airlines plane that disappeared is no on: June 02, 2014, 06:21:07 EDT
Some debris should wash up somewhere. Suitcases, cushions, fragments of the plane, bodies. Air France debris didn't take months and months, debris and 2 bodies were found within 5 days.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_447

They actually spotted the oil slick within a day.  What I mean by "months and months" is to find useful pieces of wreckage, not just the litter on the surface.  It took nearly two years to find the black boxes and they knew within a KM or two, at most, where the French airliner went down.  That makes a big difference.  There are literally thousands of square KM the Malaysian plane could have crashed into.

I tend to agree with Pirate....if it was a terrorist or extremist action, the pilot likely crashed it far away from land on purpose.

I also think it's possible that the pilots were incapacitated and the plane was on auto pilot for a long period of time.

We may never know for sure, even with modern technology.  It might be decades.

9845  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hubbs comment on RF leaving on: May 30, 2014, 07:55:32 EDT
It seems quite a few on here at this time last year had RF pegged as the long-term solution for UT at QB.  Now that he is leaving, is Dobbs the solution, or would it be a new recruit that hasn't signed yet?  Does RF leaving push back the year (2015?) in which Vol fans believe UT will again realistically compete for the East?

Dobbs may be a pleasant surprise.  He looked competant at times last year, but hardly exciting and he is still a question mark IMO.  However a year of development can make a big difference.

Worley was widely disliked last year, but my take is that he is about on par with where the rest of the team is at this point in time, and is a workable QB for next year while Dobbs develops further and Butch recruits, if that's how it plays out.

I would not write Peterman (whose name i only recall because it's in this thread  ) off just yet.  He was simply awful in the Florida game last year, but he was thrown into an unwinnable situation IMO.   If the situation calls for it, I am all for him getting a second chance.

Bottom line...we are a year away from being any good at all, IMO, and QB is just one part of that.
9846  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Any theories as to why the Malaysian airlines plane that disappeared is no on: May 30, 2014, 05:25:36 EDT
But where is the debris? They have found none anywhere. Even the french plane they found debris, lots of it. None has washed up, not even seat cushions. If the plane crashed, there would be tons of debris

It took months and months to find the debris and they knew ALMOST EXACTLY where it went down.

Whereas in the case of the Malaysian plane there are hundreds or even thousands of square kilometers to search.  They may well never find it.
9847  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Any theories as to why the Malaysian airlines plane that disappeared is no on: May 29, 2014, 11:42:28 EDT
It's in the ocean, but just incredibly difficult to find.  The French airliner that went down off Brazil a few years ago had much better tracking, and still took months and months to find.

A lady friend mentioned to me that we found the Orbiter after the 1986 Challenger disaster.  Yes.  But we had PRECISE telemetry on that bird, it was much larger, and it still took months and months to find all the pieces.  Not to mention our own spacecraft was a much higher priority for the feds than a foreign airliner and we put much more resources into it.

It has crashed.  I would bet a week's pay it has, anyway.

Some people though...just the other day I overheard two rubes in a bar talking.  One of them said "yes, they say they hear a black box, but the turists could have planted one.".

Oh.  My. Freaking.  God.

That isn't to say it's not mysterious HOW it crashed.  Could be sabatoge or an electrical fire or other failure.  We may never know for sure, and there is a decent chance ... IMO ... that the wreckage is either not found or not found for a long time.
9848  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Riley Ferguson rumor on: May 29, 2014, 06:21:02 EDT
I expect he will be better, and Worley too.  And maybe Hurd plays at an All American level from day one.  Maybe the line will gel quicker than we think.  But even if every best case scenario for the offense comes to pass, the defense is still going to hold this team back.  No matter how you look at it, we're still at least a year away.

I completely agree. I posted something similar a couple months ago.  Defense is almost a complete reset.  We should be okay at LB and have some experience at DB, but of course the line is a huge unknown.

On the O side, there are at least a couple guys that started in cases of injury and an experienced and highly touted JUCO player, and as you point out the other positions other than QB are getting a nice infusion of talent.  O can make something work, D is going to struggle, and we are definitely a year away from signficant improvement in the W/L column.

I would not rule out a nice surpise or two this fall though.
9849  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Riley Ferguson rumor on: May 28, 2014, 10:02:34 EDT
That's kind of what I was saying.  This year's team isn't going to set the world on fire, even if they have Peyton Manning under center.  So I'm willing to take a hit this season, if it can possibly help us sign a marquee qb.  Don't think that Gibson, Francois, and our other targets at QB haven't noticed this.  The youngest guy in our rotation (in terms of eligibility) is now out of the equation.  Now, they're going to see that all they have to do to start is beat a junior who, let's be honest, hasn't exactly looked like the next Montana to this point.

Dobbs might be much better this year.  Going from first to second year, particularly in a new offense (obviously new for Dobbs but also for the rest of the team) a QB can often make great strides.   So he might be better than we think.

In the meantime I wish he would grow some dam eyebrows.

Geez.  What a warm and fuzzy feeling that gives me thinking about next season ...................

We will see.
