Title: Welcome Jerome Dews to Big Orange country
Post by: Clockwork Orange on June 25, 2013, 06:13:59 EDT
Dews camped with Butch & Co and apparently stood out, despite his lack of offers from high level BCS programs. He's young-- not 17 until November-- and the coaches see tremendous upside. I'll not question Butch on this one since he evaluated the kid in person. By the time he enrolls here he'll probably be an inch or two taller and 20-30 lbs heavier, and may end up as a DE or TE.

FWIW, Eirk Ainge indicated this morning that the offer to Dews is a grayshirt/2015 scholarship offer for now. So my guess is he will only be part of the 2014 class if the numbers work out (meaning we missed out on some bigger targets). There was speculation about that yesterday but not a lot of info floating around.

I do like that we're recruiting nationally again.  I remember shortly after Dooley was hired, when he stated that we would be concentrating our recruiting efforts to the SE region.  That was an early red flag for me.  So let me get this straight, coach.  You mean we'll be recruiting exclusively against Saban, Herban, Richt, Spurrier, and Miles?  Yeah, sounds like a great plan to me. :frown:

Butch appears to understand what it takes to win at UT.  Every coach who has ever had success in Knoxville has recruited nationally.  I'm not sure why Dooley couldn't see that.
