Has he figured out yet that the quarterback sack is a perfectly legal play in the SEC?  If not, he may require an adjustment period.

Remember when he got mad at Urban about recruiting?

Um...

This is an unexpected move for Arkansas. I have serious doubts about Bielema's ability to succeed in the SEC, but I bet Arky had to pay him quite a bit. He made $2.5M at Wisconsin, and he's a Big Ten alum (Iowa).

This should be interesting.

I don't think it's a horrible hire. Not great, but ok.

Bielema never had a recruiting class better than #34 at Wisconsin. I think he's a good X's and O's guy, but (1) he better be able to recruit in this league and (2) the guy is a dick and I wish he weren't in the SEC.

Flea just called it a home run hire on the VS.

Is that really going to be the perception of fans? The guy has had some success but he hasn't won big there.

They can point at three straight Rose Bowls but he lost the first two and looks likely to lose this one also . . . because the Big Ten is weak. EDIT: We also have to recall that he inherited a healthy program form a guy who WON three Rose Bowls . . . Barry Alvarez . . . who has been the AD this whole time.

I don't think it's a great hire. I think he'll do just OK and they'll have to pay him big money to do it.

I don't know that he can translate his Big Ten success in the SEC, but perception is going to be that he's more of a home run hire than whoever Tennessee gets. That will be the perception from UT fans, Arkansas fans and fans from outside either fan base.

He's had four 10-win seasons in seven years. That's hard to sneeze at.

I think he's a good coach. Reminds me of Fulmer. We'll see what happens.

They could have done a lot worse.   Despite the fact that the Big 10 is down, Wisky is their best team over the last three seasons.  That says something.  Other than Urban (who is obviously not leaving and I can't stand the little shizzle anyway) and maybe Fitzgerald at NW, Bielema is about the only coach in the Big 10 I would touch.  Okay, maybe Pelini if really desperate, but Wisky just hammered Pelini and Nebraska in the championship game.  Not a bad hire at all, but we can do better at UT.

I wouldn't call it a homerun hire.  He plays Big 10 ball, which we have seen does not work in the SEC.  Not only that, but I don't think he is that great of a recruiter and at Arkansas, you have to be good at recruiting because they are just like TN.

Another interesting thing is his name hadn't been mentioned in the media and all the sudden it comes out of left field.  It is funny how every school has "insiders" but then they don't know jack about what is actually happening.

Which is why I mostly ignore them. Some of the posts early on about Gruden on other sites were just ridiculously detailed...and wrong.    Makes you wonder about hit counts....
