My HS band director was a protege of his (and is now the director at UGa) and so I heard much about him going through band at Doyle High in south Knoxville.  He was a tremendous band director for UT.

my sister just texted me the news
I liked Dr J, though he called me "country"
My HS Director got me into the Pride as I feel my try out was pro forma
True story(s)
My FR year we weren't going to Jackson for the Ole Mss game but Chris Schenkle called Dr J and promised air time at half time so Dr J lobbied the AD and got us going
We were going to be putting in a new show (we used to do that in the old days) for the KY game & the Bengals game.  We now had a week to put it in and it was raining on Tuesday.  Dr J walked down the stairs between sections T and U, opens his arms up at center field and the rain stopped!

All men dream: but not equally.
Those who Dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds
Wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the
Dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they
May act their dream with open eyes, to make it Possible.
This I did.
—T. E. Lawrence,
