This is something I don't think any of us saw coming. I figured Peterman would be the odd man out. If he doesn't want to be here that's his call, I think he's screwing up, but it is what it is. Good luck to him. IMO this will open eyes for a major QB or two commit coming soon. COme on down and welcome to Big Orange Country whoever you are.

Also grades were not an issue as he was still eligible.

It seems quite a few on here at this time last year had RF pegged as the long-term solution for UT at QB.  Now that he is leaving, is Dobbs the solution, or would it be a new recruit that hasn't signed yet?  Does RF leaving push back the year (2015?) in which Vol fans believe UT will again realistically compete for the East?

There is little doubt that Ferguson was the best "prospect" from a purely physical skills standpoint, but obviously work ethic and ability to make good decisions just aren't there at this point. 

As I have said all along, Worley is a senior.  If he is still the best option left, then Pat Ryan is correct - our QB of the future (that future being now) isn't on campus yet.

I still think UT will be back p to competing in 2015 but having a realistic chance may not be in the cards till 2016.  The biggest reasons is that Dooley Fooley basically made UT into a La Tech school in regards to athlete qualilty at the SEC level.  Da Butcher is getting us back there but it is a slow process at times and some people don't want to hear that!!!

Dobbs may be a pleasant surprise.  He looked competant at times last year, but hardly exciting and he is still a question mark IMO.  However a year of development can make a big difference. 

Worley was widely disliked last year, but my take is that he is about on par with where the rest of the team is at this point in time, and is a workable QB for next year while Dobbs develops further and Butch recruits, if that's how it plays out.

I would not write Peterman (whose name i only recall because it's in this thread  :biggrin:) off just yet.  He was simply awful in the Florida game last year, but he was thrown into an unwinnable situation IMO.   If the situation calls for it, I am all for him getting a second chance.

Bottom line...we are a year away from being any good at all, IMO, and QB is just one part of that.

You guys need to wait to judge Dobbs. I personally think he has what it takes to have a breakout year. He was thrown to the wolves last year as a 3rd stringer, and had to learn against SEC defenses. He is highly intelligent, has incredible work ethic, and he did show flashes of talent. He looked damn good in the spring game too.

I'm beginning to think we may see a two qb system this year. Worley showed marked improvement last year as the season progressed. He could show dramatic improvement as well. I absolutely think Dobbs will be the guy in 2015.

I don't think so.  That has not been CBJ's style over the years.  He picks a QB and tends to stay with them but isn't afraid of changing

And that is probably better. I think Worely will be much improved. Then we have Dobbs for 2015, and hopefully Peterman as backup while grooming a freshman :powert:

I can't speak for everyone, but it doesn't alter my timetable one bit.  I stated early last season that we don't have "great" qb on the roster.  If we did, they would've had ample chance to take the job from Worley prior to the UGA game last year.  We'll sign at least one, probably two in this class.  But whether or not one of them claims the job right away, I still expect improvement in 2015.  And by "improvement", I mean 8-10 wins.  Does that mean we will compete for the East?  Beats me.  Depends on what happens with the rest of the division (if UGA and UF are racked by injuries again, it would sure help).  But that team will still have issues.  Almost all of their talent will rest in the freshman and sophomore classes, so they'll have little in the way of experience or quality depth.  I don't see this team as a realistic threat for the SECC and (by extension) the NC until at least 2016. 

Call me crazy, but I'm not really worried about the QB position after this year.  Dobbs may not be "great", but he's really bright, he reportedly made great strides this Spring, and we're surrounding him with enough playmakers that he should be successful (something our QBs lacked in a big way last season).  If a freshman beats him out for the job next year, I think it will be because they are really, really good, and not because Dobbs is bad. 

He better have his wheels greased because he'll be standing behind the 14TH ranked offensive line, and that's in the SEC (how many teams in the SEC now?).... Oh, I forgot, you're crazy.

Agree with you, Pirate.  Like the old saying goes, if you got more than one QB then you likely have none. 

I'm afraid that's where we are right now.
