I just think fans shouldn't care about or concern themselves with those details. The complaints all come back to wins and losses. The length of the contract or the buyout is never an issue when the coach is performing well.
I actually think graduates and donors should be concerned about those things. Of course they don't matter when a coach is successful. But, administrators should be negotiating and entering into contracts with all possibilities (or an many as can be foreseen) in mind. The length of the contract and terms of a buyout are there to deal with potential failure, which we know all too well is a real possibility and easily foreseen.

Ahh, I'm not trying to uncivil. You don't me well so you can't tell I'm being light-hearted about it but be assured that I am.
I thought that might be the case, but I just don't want things to get out of control. As far as knowing you, I have been at the VTTW since 1998, so.... And, if I don't know you, Bandit also may not, and I wanted to avoid a back-and-forth exchange. I actually try to step lightly with my moderator shoes in these situations.

Aobut the 10 years. There is absolutely no reason performance goals and thresholds couldn't be added to mitigate paying the full amount if the performace wasn't there. Should really not be a problem if structured properly.
Well, that is the key (bolded orange text in quote). The thought of another failed coach getting paid big bucks to get out of town isn't very appealling. Such things won't matter if the next coach is successful, and they would not have mattered if previous coaches were successful. That's why structuring for potential failure is important, IMO. Some risk has to be taken by the coach. I despise one-sided contracts.

...expected and welcome, it really is, but let's try to keep it civil please. Regardless of how passionate one is, there are two sides to everything, and no one's opinion deserves a lack of respect or complete dismissal (pun intended). Seriously, we all get frustrated at times, but ReVOLver has created a great community here and it would be nice to keep it somewhat courteous. I know, I know, it's difficult, but I'm just sayin'. Just a friendly reminder.

I don't even know you bandit, but I feel like I want to punch you.
Not a very civil post. Bandit is as entitled to his opinion as anyone else. In fact, I believe that 10 years is far too long for a coaching contract unless it comes with a very small (or no) buyout. Then again, I am not a Gruden fan, so.... In any event, let's keep the discourse civil please.

Put the laundry room on the same floor as the bedrooms I believe that BTV's plans are for a ranch style home, all on one floor, so that shouldn't be an issue. It is interesting that so many people, especially young people (young to me, anyway) recommend this. TRObh specifically did not want the laundry room on the same floor as our bedrooms. She did not even want it on the main floor. She prefers it in the basement, even though the bedrooms are on the second floor (two sets of stairs away).

The 62-64 stretch is interesting. 62 2-5 (beat vandy tulane and ga tech) - ha, two of these schools no longer SEC 63 3-4 (beat uk tulane and vandy) - lost to Ga Tech, but tech was independent starting this year 64 1-5-1 (beat msu and tied LSU) Total record...6-14-1 note ...only 7 SEC games per season prior to 92 tulane was as bad or worse than vandy prior to dropping out of the SEC in 1966, so I would say not too many quality wins in that stretch either. But yeah, we are worse even if Dooley wins the next two. But at least 64 was the year Dickey took over. In 65 his SEC record was 2-1-2. Somehow we only played five sec games, but we tied Auburn and Alabama, and from there we went on to win the 67 and 69 SEC titles under Dickey. GT officially withdrew from the the SEC in June of 1964, so '63 counts. The official yearly records for '62-'64 are 2-6, 3-5 and 1-5-1, so the total is 6-16-1. The Vols beat GT in '64 but it doesnt count as an SEC win.

Have we ever had a record like this? No. The previous worst three-year stretch I could find was 1962-64 when the Vols went 6-16-1 (.261). There were three different head coaches over those three seasons.

Per James Howell's historical data, UT's SEC record all-time (including this season) is 323-184-21. I think those are on-the-field results, so forfeits are not changed. Dooley does indeed have 18 of the losses so 10% is pretty much there.
And yes, that's pathetic.
The official UT publication indicates 319-174-19 through last season, so that would be 319-180-19 currently. That's probably where they got the information.

...now our local radio guys are, uh, "special"- so if this is inaccurate, my apologies. Anyway, they said that in 80 years of SEC football, UT has lost 180 league games. 18 of those belong to Dooley. For the math impaired, that's 10% of our all time losses, in less than 3 seasons. Just damn. And in the 5 years prior to Dooley (2005-2009), the Vols lost 19 SEC games. So, that would mean 20+ percent of all of the Vols' league losses have occurred in just the past 8 seasons (~4.5 of the total seasons). In Majors' first 24 SEC games, he went 10-14 (.417). Dooley, even if he wins against Vandy and KY, will be 6-18 (.250). Truly bad.

...ever. It was totally subdued. As many of you know. we tailgate pretty close to where the Vol Walk passes on Peyton Manning Pass, and we are used to seeing throngs of people headed there, as well as the noise of the music and singing and cheering. During our tailgate, I looked at the time an said, "They should be doing the Vol Walk soon, shouldn't they?" I was then told that it was over. I would never have known. Now that's just plain sad. As for the game, just more of the same. A head coach in WAY over his head who got beat at halftime.....again.....but who this time also totally gave up on his players. Inexcusable. But, at least he can take all three of his first-half timeouts and two of his three second-half timeouts to Nashville with him next week. Oh wait,.... What a freakin' nightmare of a season! I'll be back in a couple weeks to see the Vols play The Jelly, but only because I'll be in Knoxville for Thanksgiving and it's the only game my wife and kids can attend.

...at the right hand side is the date and time with a +/- symbol. How many of you have that as a minus symbol (expanded) so that you can see the "News" line? If you do, is having the game/TV information there useful? I intend to put truly noteworthy news items there also, for instance if any coaching changes are made, but I do not want to bother if the line is either not seen or rarely used. I started adding game/TV information a few weeks ago because so many people seemed to ask about it on a regular basis. I just want to make your board experience the best it can be, so let me know what you think. Well, what you think about this issue, not just about any old topic.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Missouri vs. Tennessee - TRO Family Tailgate
|
on: November 07, 2012, 02:06:02 EST

Well, it's a 12:21 p.m. kickoff, so we should be set up EARLY. Please feel free to join in, especially if you are a visiting Missouri fan and/or VTTW poster/lurker. Below is a map showing the location. We should be set up right behind the UTAD tailgate area (between their large orange and white canopy and the building) and we are still using the orange canopy covers with the white Power Ts on them (two canopies). Stop in and say hello and share some of the food and drinks. There is no need to bring anything unless you want something in particular or just want to bring something to share. I suppose we'll have the usual -- steak and Italian sausage sandwiches, as well as some hot dogs. I'm guessing we may also try to bring some breakfast food for the early morning. We will also have cookies and chips/dip. I hope to see some of you there. Go Big Orange!

Wel, in general medium distance is great (long distance will never be good due to a past detached retna issue) and near vision is worse. The near vision is expected to improve over the next few days as the eye heals. Vision clarity, sharpness and color satuation is much improved Thanks for asking! Cool. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the near vision to improve soon.

Glad to hear everyone is safe, that is most important.
I have some family in the NY/NJ area, and they are all ok, and they got power back today. TRObh's parents and sister's family were still without power in Quakertown, PA yesterday, but I haven't heard anything today.

Yep. Came back and got back-to-back shutouts over Cincy and LSU before losing three straight to Arky, Bammer, and Cackalacky. Man, how good were we looking at 5-0 with wins over UGA and UF and two shutouts? That Arkansas game was one of the first I ever went to and was an amazingly deflating experience. Except for Cincy, the offensive production really dropped off after Majors came back. I recall the general feeling that Fulmer was more open with the offense than Majors. Considering that Arky and SC were one-point losses, that was perceived as huge.

In 1992, Fulmer stepped in when Majors had his heart issue and proceeded to win the first 4 games of the season. Majors came back the Monday before the LSU game and UT won in Baton Rouge. Then came the “slide” which included bad losses to two really weak teams (an Arkansas team that lost to the Citadel in its opening game & South Carolina). One nit to pick. Fulmer is credited with winning the first three games of 1992 -- including wins over ranked Florida (4) and Georgia (14). His fourth win came in the Hall of Fame Bowl against Boston College (16) after Majors was officially no longer the head coach. I believe Majors was back for the Cincinnati game prior to LSU.
