Sports / VTTW Message Board / Your NCAAT expectations?
|
on: March 08, 2022, 12:30:56 EST

The NCAAT is all about guard play. For the first time in a long time, we bring 3 big time guards, and sometimes all three play at the same time. This team could do well.
I think they get to the sweet 16, and then it's a little bit of luck. You don't want to run into a hot team like Loyola Chicago that year, or last year with Oregon state. The team can sometimes go into offensive funks too.

If in fact players want to play for championships, I don't understand why folks think one will leave. Start em both. Uros can sub for them. ZZ at pg, Mashack at 2 (or whoever), and JJJ at 3 (if he comes back)... I am a layman tho. I don't even know who we have coming in... don't we have another pg signed up? Knoxville boy?
BJ Edwards. He is a baller

I haven’t even considered KC returning. I think he’s gone for sure. But if he returns… I don't think he will return either, but it would be better for him if he did. He will probably get drafted, but not as high as people think

While I've made my general feelings about NIL pretty clear, I will concede that this is one area where it can be a positive. A lottery pick isn't going to think twice about leaving. But for someone that's looking at a late round pick or Euro league or D League, a good NIL deal can make it worth their while to stay. If enough guys return, this team can be great next year. Let's see what happens.
agree and KC and Santi will both get major NIL offers (once Santi gets the Visa issue cleared like Oscar did at UK)

Sports / VTTW Message Board / I fully expected to lose that game

Road SEC game against a really good team. The game went like I expected, including the bad refs. Hey we went in with an 8 game winning streak in the SEC, which is not bad at all.
We're in the stretch run now. Need to hold serve at home vs 2 tough teams in Auburn and Arkansas. I think we will. Then we should take care of business @ Mizzu and @ UGA, both of whom are bad teams.
I think we go 4-0, and win 2 in the tourney. Likely will be a 3 seed.

Barnes has a history of developing guys, but there are some that don't. Bailey didn't improve this year, and Fulk didn't either but he is what he is now. Otherwise, Rick does a really good job of getting guys to improve every year. Nkamhoua and Vescovi are much improved. I think Vescovi will make all SEC, as well as Chandler. Not first team though.

Anyone who hasn’t seen improvement in this team over the past few weeks isn’t looking for it, imo. The team has had times where they’ve not been as productive as we would all like for them to be, but overall I think they have progressed over the past several games.
At one point early in the SEC season I thought that a .500 SEC record would be tough to achieve. A win tonight would put this team in a tie for second (as far as losses go, anyway). I didn’t think that was possible after the first few weeks of January.
I do not see this team as a final four or elite 8 squad right now, but overall the level of play has improved as far as I’m concerned.
**Addendum: We may get beat by UK tonight. I think they are definitely final four capable at this point (I really hate to say that), but I am hoping for a much better showing than earlier at Rupp.
No question this year's team is better than last year's team. For one thing, we have 2 PG on this team. JJJ and SV are much better this year as well.

I was looking over our roster. Fulky and Bailey are our only seniors. Chandler is almost certainly gone. But if everyone else returns, we could have one of our best teams ever. Santi and JJJ might have decisions to make, but I would expect them back. If we can keep everyone else out of the portal, look out. It will be tough to keep both Aidoo and BHH out of the portal

I like what I have seen from him. He is tall, athletic, and can hit a jumper. He also will block a lot of shots in his career.
Prediction: He will be our most improved player next year.

With 1 & 25 on the bench with 3 (or 4) fouls the subs just didn't move as well That resulted in our offensive implosion. The only players constantly moving in the 2nd half were Fulky & Ziegler, who played really well tonight Ziegler is so quick lightning can't keep up
I was surprised how well Uros played. He really hustles on defense It was very clear he was to double their guards when they were outside high With Fulky we really didn't do that
Late in the game when Ziegler stole the ball in their lane and fed Chandler for the layup the building exploded.
Vescovi can't get in foul trouble, because then Bailey has to play more, and he isn't very good offensively. Other than ZZ, offensively sub par games for KC, JJJ. Luckily we do have depth this year

Sports / VTTW Message Board / We're tied for third place

Not really that bad at all for this team, with its shooting inconsistencies.
Plus we have UK and Auburn at home, and we are improving.
ZZ - has been great SV - Consistent all year JJJ - Starting to play very well CK - Has played well all year, needs to stay aggressive
Love the three guard lineup we use to close out games too. Ball handling becomes a premium if you are ahead.
I do think we have issues with the bigs. Uros is improved and brings attitude but he is limited. Fulky isn't what he used to be. Nkamhoua is probably our best big, but he got hurt. We may need the 5 star BHH to step up.
What's your take? I think this is a sweet 16 team
