In his post-practice gathering with the media types today, Jones said that Riley Ferguson was the guy who stepped up when they made the QBs live. Of course, he followed that up by saying "Don't write that. I'm not naming a starter."

It's almost always a nightmare to start a true freshman at QB in the SEC but I'm all for it because it will mean that the freshman is better than Worley or Peterman, neither of whom have impressed me.

Edit: Of course it's still almost a given that Worley will be the starter on 8/31, but it would be most interesting if the young guys can step up and pressure.

Worley will open the season as the starter but I do not expect him to be the starter by the end of the season

Ferguson seems to consistently be getting a lot of mention by CBJ. He's going to play the guy who can win, and a glance at Ferguson's resume' shows that he is a winner.

He was the first guy Butch made "live" tonight even though he was the 3rd QB to take the field in a situational setting. To me, it seemed obvious that Butch was putting extra pressure on him for a reason. I think Ferguson is poised to move up the depth chart, but he did not have a good day today in practice, for sure.

I'm just gonna wait and see what happens.  I have no idea who will step up.  It's like trying to predict the stock market.  Guys like Peter Lynch and Warren Buffet just don't do it.  Instead, they focus on the individual companies finances, earnings, business acumen, etc.    Well with the exception of Worley, these guys don't have any "earnings" yet.  They need to play some games.  And Worley's starting experience was so long ago that I tend to discount it.

It will be interesting to see....I think whoever plays will have a relatively easy first couple of games, but the next two will tell the tale.  Come late September, the picture will be much clearer.

If Memory serves me correctly a freshman last lead us to victory over Florida. I honestly would much rather see the guy who gives us the Best chance to win be out there freshman junior whatever. I want Wins again.
