the Comcast goes down. My son just arrived to watch the game with me and so I call my buddy across town to see if his cable is out also. It was. I go into panic mode and call 1-800-XFINITI and push all the buttons that might get me someone to talk to. Finally I get a recording tellingme that our area is experiencing technical difficulties and service was expected to be back by 10:51. I'm somewhat displeased since this is like the SuperBowl of college football. We all pack up and drive to the next county and watch the game at the golf course. Recommendations requested: What kind of home satellite systems are the best. BYE BYE ComCast. This is far from the first time something like this has happened.

I've had DirecTV for 5years now and love it. If you pick them let me know, customers get a $50 credit when we refer a friend.

Same as Vinnie, except with Dish Network. No issues, pricing is good, and customer service beats Comcast, who is the devil, all to pieces.

I've had both Dish and Direct. You can't go wrong with either, but when the original contract is up be prepared to negotiate and threaten to leave, or they will jack your rates sky high.

I threaten to leave everytime my contract is up, and everytime I've got my rate slashed and free hardware.

Dish Network is far cheaper than DirecTV, but that comes at a price. They play hardball with the networks more. Nothing like losing one of your favorite channels due to contract negotiations. It happens far too often, and I've threatened to leave several times because of it. My contract with Dish expired over a year ago, but every time I compare prices with DirecTV I wind up stalling on making the switch. Not sure what kind of deal DirecTV has going on right now, but my in-laws just switched from local cable back to Dish and got two free IPad 2s out of the deal.

Agreed, but Dish has also eventually ended up getting those channels back. Only once or twice has that happened with channels I watched, but they were channels that Direct was negotiating for lower pricing, too. Can't go wrong with either Dish or Direct.

I've got DirecTV. When I started with them in 2002 it was great then, its still great now, but they do keep inching up the service price. I'm really almost to the point of shutting them off. I'm really getting tired of that.

Yep, I got the email too for the price increase. But I would think the competitors do the same, don't they?

Hm, so the networks are slowing squeezing them. I think they should offer a pass through service for a fixed price, and let consumers pick their own channels. But the great majority of cable channels will never agree to that, because their revenue would drop severely if people were not forced to carry them. It's like a semi-monopoly. One day people might be able to pick whatever channels they want, and then a whole bunch of crap no one wants to watch anyway will disappear. The only downside I see is that I get shows I would not if I picked every channel, that turn out to be good.
