Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: One more on the Lunardi thing
|

How good he is or isn't, and how experienced he is, those aren't the points. The point is that Buzz was venting about the Selection Committee. Why did Lunardi get so offended that he had to respond? Why the #NotMyFirstBracket hashtag, as if he was the reason TAMU did or didn't get into the tournament?
Those are rhetorical questions, of course. The answer is that Lunardi is so sensitive to it because he's the committee's water-carrier and gets fed inside info to share with the public in exchange for trying to shape public opinion of the process. Not unlike John Currie using Dan Wolken for much the same reasons on Schiano Sunday (and Wolken similarly getting offended at Tennessee fans who criticized the potential hire of Schiano.)

All I know is someone needs to start beating both these teams. Have you heard any rumors or facts that when OU and Texas join, Bama and Auburn are moving to the SECe?
Hopefully that is the case versus the pod stuff that have been kicked around.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Pretty crappy sports ending to this year ...

with the basketball loss on Wednesday followed by yesterdays debacle. Today I continue with my goal to keep Georgia from winning the NC. To do that and since it is the first game, I need to pull for Alabama to beat Cincinnati as I think they have the best shot of knocking off GA. Of course, the Wolverine is my favorite mammal today.

After the first running play that did not get a 1st down he should have called TO saving around 7-8 seconds. The long downfield passes were frustrating. However, there were probably 6-8 times during the game where our WR's were 2 yards or more behind the Purdue DB's. You can't ask for more than that and we needed our QB to hit them like he is suppose to.
Granted we played with 71 scholarship players and a previous walk-on at RT for nearly half the season, and with this we set the single season Tennessee scoring record with a HC that has been here only for 11 months.
Next year hopefully we can improve on both lines of scrimmage where we can run the ball when we need to and pressure the QB without having to send LB's and DB's.

starting DT Octavious Oxendine for the year with a torn meniscus. Tough loss when getting ready to play a run-oriented Georgia offense this Saturday.

The vast majority of my guarded optimism about the upcoming season is simply improved QB play versus last year. It is hard for me to imagine the play of any of our 3 QB's could be any worse than what I saw last year.

College football has been my favorite sport since going to Neyland for the first time and watching the Vols vs. UCSB in 1971. At that time, the SEC was a 10 team Conference where winning the Conference and getting to the Sugar Bowl was huge. The National Champion was crowned via an evolving system that generally worked and always generated interesting discussions.
The regular season in college football, which is probably the greatest seasons in sports has been hanging on by a thread. What the plan looks to be now is 20 team conferences where two teams could conceivably play each other 3 times in a season. Rosters shift every year via the portal, throw in NIL and we are looking like the NFL on Saturdays.
I get it that times change, nothing stays the same, and money talks, but I fear there is a point not too far off where people start to lose interest? We can at least possible be a pod champion.

I have always heard that a school has veto power if they choose of any additions to the conference of a school in their state. Like SC-Clemson, KY-Louisville, GA-GT, etc. Will be interesting to see if that is indeed true and available to A&M if that is the case.

His chance to continue playing in the SEC is slim at the very best. His "leadership" is looking for non-SEC options after causing him to miss out on winter conditioning and spring practice with any school.

If he does, he needs to find a different weight zone - he was too light last year, lost his impact ability at the point of tackle. I wish I could do cuts to show the (night and day) difference in him filling the hole as a FR and last year Pruitt seemed all about speed behind the lines I suspect the new weight scheme would be more in tune with his needs but who knows.
His stuff of Rodriguez on 3rd down was a thing of beauty. PS - That stand was probably the high water mark for me with Pruitt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW29CRHL600

Given what the LB position looks like I hope he makes amends and returns to the team, if the team agrees. What he may see that if he wants to play in the SEC the easiest path to do that is to stay in Knoxville. Going to another SEC school means waiting for the NCAA and the SEC to approve the transfer which could take months. What his dad may be doing is reaching out to non-SEC schools for other options.
