Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I have a question about the players heading to the portal.

NCAA was to vote on the one time transfer last May but because of Covid they changed to voting on it until early 2021....I have not seen or read of a vote date. Back in the late Summer early Fall the NCAA was turning down transfers (like Cade Mays).....Then all of a sudden they did a lot of blanket approvals of transfer and leaving it up to the conference offices to approve.....Remember Cade Mays didn't get approved by the conference office until after our season started....The rule for grad transfers is different than underclassmen transferring in the portal like with us right now....Unless something has changed these transferring right now would have to sit for a year pending the vote....Hard to believe kids that are starters would transfer out and not be able to play until the Fall of 2022.
Former LVs basketball player Westbrooke transferred to UConn and she had to sit out last season....She will be playing tonight against the LVs.....IIRC if the NCAA put a school on probation with post season bans then players can transfer....Ole Miss had some transfer when the NCAA hit OM pretty hard....The Patterson kid who was the Ole Miss QB transferred to Michigan was was their starting QB for 2 years and didn't sit out....The more I read the NCAA rules on transfers the more confused I get.
I think the NCAA punted and tabled the transfer vote/discussion until later this year.

Who those individuals were is anybody's guess, but I tend to think that the person who brought the possoble violations to the administration's attention was most likely someone in the compliance department.
I agree with your theory. I use to want to know who the individual was when everyone was saying it small item stuff. Now with what was conveyed yesterday it is irrelevant.

Post Steele, pre-Steele it doesn't really matter to me. The issue is Pruitt heading out there to sell him on staying with the team to coached by Steele versus what he had last season. Fire him after this meeting will be difficult to explain to current and future recruits and if I was an opposing coach if this happened I would have every mom/dad questioning what the UT coaches were telling their sons.

I can't imagine the powers at UT would let HC Pruitt and staff travel to CA to calm the waters with Henry T and then fire him over the next few days. That would be facilitating a lie to a player and their family. Hopefully he realizes he will get coached up by a top of the line LB coach in Steele.

Rocker hired at AU for DL coach. I originally thought Steele would bring his DB coach but it now may be his old DL coach in Rodney Garner.
Side note. SC being first to get rid of their coach is not working out too well. Beamer has lost 3 coaches to AU, a highly rated QB, and looks to be struggling to fill his staff with this new CEO as a HC approach.

I think the one of the real issues was the leak. If this were all on the background there likely wouldn’t be this turmoil. As is, it’s heightened all the uncertainty in the program.
It would be really interesting to know how this got out.
The leak to the media may be the biggest issue I have with the complete cluster. HC Pruitt or HC Whomever needs the full backing internally of the Athletic Department to be successful. This should have its own investigation if it has not had one already.

They doubled Fulkerson and the post all game long forcing us to beat them from the outside and Vescovi delivered. It is always good that you can put defense in the suitcase when you have to go on the road.

This is definitely a step up from being supervisor of the get back dudes who pull the coaches back from the sidelines. Hopefully for Arkansas State's sake he has improved from the 0-8 conference team he left us with.

LOL! I did nothing of the sort sparky, newsflash, THIS ISN"T MY THREAD!
Good gawd man, I have to explain everything to you.
What I am reconsidering is whether you are actually a bammer or not. Your response is very telling. No true Vol gives a flying fizzle if bammer is treated fairly or not, but apparently its a REALLY BIG DEAL to you!
Now do you get it? Holy shizzle.
You are on this site more than me, but in my time here i can definitely see some crimson tendencies.

Their defense couldn't get lined up time after time, like our 1st game last year Their secondary looked like ours for the last three (3) years
I am surprised that poot's resignation at Tennessee and hiring as the DC for the tiglettes wasn't announced before game time!
Their DL got caught multiple times last night slanting the opposite way from where the play was running as well as late lining up. I guess that is what happens when the sign they thought was sent in was not the case.

I will play along --- I think that HC Pruitt will be retained. The University President and BOT will allow AD Fulmer to do the job he was hired for and rely on him for any decision to be made. I am OK with this because we can’t continue to give a coach 3 years to fix a 12 year old problem. The recruiting infractions will turn out to be lower level in nature with an internal review taking place to determine the how’s and why’s it got to the media before the investigation was completed.
Since I have already stuck my neck out and obviously on a roll – I’ll continue:
- After the Auburn bowl game, they will not retain Kevin Steele due to obvious reasons with their new coach. He will be brought over to coach LBs with an Asst. HC title for his salary.
- Steele will bring with him Wesley McGriff to coach DBs.
- Bo Davis will not come to Knoxville and instead will move to Baton Rouge to coach the DLine at his alma mater.
- Ty Simpson will commit to UT after the February signing date and be the leader in having more 2022 in-state prospects come to Knoxville.
- HC Pruitt and staff will go on to sign 8 of the top10 players in the state for 2022.

In the VolsWire article today, the NCAA guy in the article was questioning why this is made public before the investigation is complete, therefore crucifying the program and staff in the process. Look at how Florida handled their issue because nobody knew anything about it. It was after all the internal investigations were completed and their results/findings were provided to the media. Makes you wonder what is going on in this administration.

Playing JG was the main one. Since I said it before the season I can reiterate it now. He should have blew off this season and started the future starter. That level of failure to this season I think we all would have understood
I agree. It would have been kinda of like the same move Majors did with Alan Cockrell and the majority of us would be pointing toward the future with a young QB at the helm.
