Does VU have a workaround on baseball scholarships? I've seen talk of this, but don't know if it's legit.

No.  It's an excuse some Tennessee fans like to spout as a reason for their success.

Vandy offers endowment scholarships based on need to ALL students.  They are all eligible and as long as they meet the book criteria they get them.  And they aren't "full rides" like the internet crowd claims that they are.  They can be added with baseball money, and at the D1 level each team is only allowed 11.7 total scholarships and those have to be split among a roster of 30, so it's not hard to do the math.

Other schools - both private and public - have similar programs for its students.  Among them are Stanford, Duke, Wake Forest, TCU (where Vitello coached and was happy to have in his recruiting arsenal), UVA, Michigan, and many others.

LSU and Florida have an instate tution assistance program, and several states have lottery based scholarships.  There is no "level playing field" and there never will be.

The cost to attend Vandy is more than twice what the rest of the SEC is, because it is a private school.  When you compare apples and apples it's not all that much more than most schools can "offer" baseball players.  Even Dansby Swanson said in an interview after he was drafted that he had to take out considerable student loans to pay his way at Vandy.

Besides, if the endowment schollies were the "reason" Vandy wins in baseball, why aren't golf, track and field, soccer, volleyball, etc. at Vandy dominate, as well?  Wouldn't that "advantage" apply to those sports, too, given that they all have low scholarship number limits and have to split scholarships, too?

Vandy baseball is very good because of Tim Corbin and a group of supporters who give a damn about baseball.

Thanks Herb! That's a good breakdown.
