My personal favorite was when he called Texas Tech the "Red Devils".

Personally, I think Bobby's incompetence (or inebriation...potato, potahto) adds a certain charm to our gameday experience, and I'll be sad to see him go.

I will refuse to mention Ciclon in this thread ... oops......

tell him that it's Marlon Walls and not Marion Walls? That drove me crazy the other night... for God's sake, pronounce our players' names correctly.

It aint his eyes it is his liquor quotient that is going downhill......

I want to thank everyone for all the prayers the last two years....Linda was officially approved to end her antibiotics yesterday since all of the osteomylitis infection is gone and her leg is healing very well.  It has been a journey of epic proportions but she is feeling well and whole for the first time in two years.

Thank you to everyone for all your good wishes and prayers it is what kept me going.  Linda will also be attending the LSU Tailgate on the 15th of October so lots of people better be there to wish her well cause I am so pumped that she is going to be able to come.
Once again thank you all for your prayers and well wishes it made it possible for me and Linda to keep going.

We will return to our habit of parking down on Neyland Drive this week. We can be out on the Interstate much quicker from that side. With the delay this past week, those extra 20 minutes we lost parking on the strip were brutal.

We had a great time at your tailgate this past week though.  We might be back at some point this year.

Shoot you should not miss the UGA and LSU Tailgates......

UGA will feature an dawg gone good food and LSU will feature a new dish for me with a couple variations on corndogs.....

Let me know how the burgers turn out. Sounds like something simple I might could manage.

As always I will post recipes after the tailgate...

What are your top moments as a sports fan?

Mine:

1. Pandemonium Reigns: 1998 UT vs. Florida. I've long thought that Florida and Tennessee were the two best teams in America that year. Yes, the Arkansas game was huge and the Fiesta Bowl was the crowning achievement (more on those later) but the Florida game was symbolic of what that team was all about and the frustration that was let out that night was refreshing. Of course this could never be #1 if not what it led to. You won't see other victories vs. Florida on this list, not even 2001 or 2004.

2. The National Champion is clad in Orange: 1999 UT vs. Florida State. Pretty much self explanatory. To be honest it means more now than it did then because in the moment I thought we were going to compete at that level for a long time.

3. There are No Flags on the Field... It's a Miracle! aka The Music City Miracle: January 2000 Buffalo at Tennessee. One of the most amazing plays I've ever seen during a time when I wasn't sure whether I cared if the Titans were in Tennessee or not. The Super Bowl run that first year cemented the Titans' place in a lot of hearts (not lyn's LOL) and made me a fan.

4. JP Prince blocks Evan Turner: the Vols go to the Elite 8, March 2010: This is one of those that means more as time passes. Again, I thought it was the beginning of greater things. Sadly, it was probably the highlight of our program for many years to come.

5. The Miracle at South Bend 1990: One of the better days in my early days as a UT fan. So, so gratifying.

6. David Legwand's empty net goal vs. Anaheim to clinch playoff series, 2011: This is what spawned me to make this list. The new sports station in Nashville, 102.5, is playing Preds games in the middle of the day and today they replayed this one. It still gives me chills and makes me tear up.

7. OH MY GOODNESS! Steorner stumbles and fumbles! UT vs. Arkansas 1998. This may be higher for others here but you have to understand at the time of the game I was at work and getting the details of it second hand over the phone. I saw the first quarter and have seen the YouTube video of it but I've never seen the middle of the game. It was a great moment though because one second the dream of the national championship was dead and the next second it was alive and well and even seemed destined.

8. Bulls and MJ beat the Suns and Barkley to complete the three-peat, 1993 NBA finals. John Paxson hit a dagger three and Horace Grant blocked Kevin Johnson's last second try. I'm not the NBA fan I used to be but you have to understand that during that time in my life Vol football was 1a and Michael Jordan's Bulls were 1B. I LOVED that team.

9. Reds sweep the A's, 1990 World Series: I thought I would never see the Reds win a World Series. I had taken to rooting for the Mets during my childhood because the Reds always stunk. But that was a wire-to-wire year of glory. Great memories!

10t. Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, Mets vs. Red Sox. The Sox had the Mets dead to rights. The Mets had other ideas, and Bill Buckner became a goat personified. One of the most unabashedly joyous celebrations of my life... I was an 11 year old frontrunning homer.

10t. Jordan pushes off Russell, buries Utah to win 6th ring, 1998 NBA finals. When I remember my favorite basketball player of all time, I have two enduring memories... one of him hugging the trophy after the first ring and one of him burying Utah in his swan song. I don't acknowledge the Washington years.

Yours?

Not a one of you has mentioned a game that was one of the most satisfying to me wins in the Johnny Majors era at UT.  If memory serves me right (yeah I am getting old) it was in 1990 and UF was jsut becoming the Steve Superior team.  ON a warm night in Knoxville Superior brought his Gator team to Knoxville and the first half was an instant classic since ti was defense defense defense babeeeeeeee.....and then UF kicked off to UT and Dale Carter got his hands on the ball at the 10 yard line and John Ward is saying "you never field the ball when it is about to go out of bounds" thank gawd that Dale Carter did not listen to conventional wisdom.....90 yards later Dale Carter is in the End Zone and the rout was on.  UT scored it seemed like on every play and the TE threw the best pass all night long to Carl Pickens for a score.  Fabulous game.

The other game was the 1989 game with UCLA that Sterling Henton led the Vols to an absolute rout of the Bruins......UCLA had two fab tailbacks and was suppossed to win by a bunch (aka PICK YOUR SCORE game) and UT demolished them.  The game was on PPV and it is the first game I had ever watched like that.....since it was on the left coast after the game the video feed continued and the Johnny Majors show was done from the field and it was on the PPV telecast......omg I was I ever that young?

968  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: For thoses not on facebook, prayers are needed for TRO on: September 01, 2011, 01:23:15 EDT
Thanks everyone.  I may not need surgery after all.  I have an appointment with a specialist scheduled for Tuesday back in Northern Virginia.  According to the surgeon at the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic, the "complete" tendon tear may actually be a "nearly complete" tear and the muscle tears should heel over time as usual.  So, there's still a chance, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Thanks again for the kind words.

I can let you borrow a wheelchair for Saturday if you need something to help you out at the game/tailgate......
969  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I need some comforting. . . on: September 01, 2011, 01:09:26 EDT
I woke up this morning really concerned about our game on Saturday.  I think Revolver CFN post got me a little scared.  Some one tell me that that writer was wrong and we aren't going to struggle on Saturday.

Writers that are in CFN are by and large the biggest set of no nothings known to the College Football Landscape...do not worry young Padawan!!

You are no longer welcome at our tailgate Saturday.

Just one or is that a multiple tailgate suspension?

972  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: It looks like Miami not only got one....... on: August 31, 2011, 06:03:39 EDT
Those penalties are not against Miami, they are against the players only.  Those players were offered limited immunity as regards their transgressions for agreeing to testify accurately and completely about what impermissible benefits they received.  They rolled on the U to keep their eligibility and it shows in the NCAA official response to their punishment.  The fact that the NCAA specifically states that UM athletic personnel provided impermissible inducements to enroll at UM and also post-enrollment as rewards should mean that UM gets absolutely hammered when the enforcement arm of the NCAA - which has no input on the current player eligibility issues - makes their case.

Miami is gonna get the max punishment just below the death penalty stage....5 years probation and a total of 50 scholarships over 5 years in football and basketball with some bowl bans and some NO NCCAA basketball tournaments (because that is what hurts them they can't make any of the bowl and NCAA basketball monies).  Miami atheltics are gonna look like SMU in the mid 90s!

973  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Concerned about Coach Cuonzo Martin's recruiting on: August 31, 2011, 06:00:48 EDT

Ha... Don't really care much for Clay lately

Maybe you should ask yourself why the previous coaching staff was recruiting the athlete also then.....

“Derek is a guy who has gotten better every year I’ve had him, and he’s had other schools recruiting him like Boston College, Wake Forest and Ole Miss, and Central Florida offered,’’ said Tucker, who in addition to coaching Reese’s Orlando Q-6 All-Stars AAU team is the coach at Cleveland (Tenn.) High School. “He’ll blossom in the SEC under Coach (Cuonzo) Martin; he fits into that philosophy and system well.

“He can play multiple positions. He’s long, he can shoot the heck out of the ball, and he handles the ball well.’’

Tucker, who is originally from Cleveland, said Reese has attended the past two UT elite summer camps and was recruited by the previous staff as well.

Sounds like you are pushing the panic button a little early on the Martin recruiting, just as some did on Dooley recruiting as well.  Proof is in the pudding AKA Games.

975  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UT Nike pro combat uniform mock up (pic) on: August 31, 2011, 02:02:17 EDT
Old!!!  I call it experienced.  You can't get that in a classroom.

Seriously, we had no depth to play Oregon last year.  We actually held up pretty well until depth became an issue.  They also had twice the depth we had.  Also, I think the game was a night game and the weather was pretty nice.  I may be wrong about the last part but you can forgive me of that since I'm 'OLD'.

One other prediction I will make is that saggin pants will be in the same catagory as platform shoes in about 10 years.

Now pardon me while I go fire up my bike and go for a ride.  I'm not quite ready for a wheelchair.

Oregon Weather Nice.....nope that was the interruption game where the lightening and rain caused the game to be halted in the start of the second quarter and gave Oregon a chance to go into the locker room and scheme on how ot stop Poole. If there is no delay Oregon goes into the locker room down 20-10 or 20-3 since their offense had not moved the ball and Poole was tearing them a new one in the first 15 minutes (he had over 100 yards in the first quarter against Oregon)
