Something must be up for him to do this suddenly. Just don't see him walking away like this in the middle of the season.
I suspect he was told he would be retiring at the end of the year by the admin and SOS decided that playing golf on Crescent Beach was an activity he would pursue sooner rather than later. In other words

The receiver has to look like he's actually running a route even though everyone knows he's not. If he puts his hands out, like the ND receiver did, they will call it. But if the receiver just happens to run his "route" in the way of a defender, then he's good.
Sort of like Preston did on the TD by Smith. He flat ran over the uga defender

Quick screens intended for the WR's to block it's ok.....if you intend for the OL to get out and block then it sure needs to be slower so they can get out. Then block somebody.
Our screen game has been pitiful for the past several years IMO....Those worked better the other night. Screens run right and using the tight end can be a weapon....and slow down a pressure defense.
Sat night at least three times the ball was in the receiver's hands before the linemen got out to block It's about as bad as when drools was coach

OK, watching the replay. I now think I know what the stupid shizzle MORONs on the vent were whining about. When Chubb was helped up there was the standard applause for an injured player. AFTER he was well off the field, say about the 50 headed for their training table (which was between the South 35-40), the teams approached the LOS and the crowd started raising the noise level again. A cluebat for the fizzleing CLUELESS on the vent is that CBS cut back to the field as the teams were preparing to resume action. fizzle THEM!

The ad where the group of officials are together making up a call with a live mike is unfortunately is seemingly more accurate than we would like.

My wife and kids really liked them. I thought they looked good, but I don't care what they wear as long as they win. My Tennessee family hated them (our colors are orange and white was a common theme). I liked them a lot. The fact that the swoosh Smokey Greys are 1-0 also make me like them even better

I HURD (heard) that whinny ass commentator talking about that the running back shouldn't be able to lead with his helmet. That's why vern should take his old ass on off to Florida to the Villages and retire already. If that had have been Chubb or Michel he wouldn't have said a fizzling word!
It wasn't Vern but Danielson But your point is valid

North wears 8. He is healing up - hopefully full go by Bama. 81 is Johnathan Johnson, who is a pretty reliable backup WR
Johnson has been hobbled by an ankle, runs great routes.

The Smokey Greys are almost universally liked by various SEC fans in the building down here. Most loved them: Best uniform this year was a common comment.

Swampydawg graciously asked me to extend his heartiest congrats to VTTW members on the win yesterday. He's still the classy Dawg alum that he always was. Swampydawg and I had a friendly wager on yesterday's game - with a twist. The winner is going to buy the lunch and a premium cigars when we meet in Chattanooga sometime in the next few weeks to settle up. I am gladly looking forward to paying off on that bet. I actually thought of Swampy as I was inching my way down the ramps last night. Pass along my best wishes and also tell him he STILL owes me lunch at the Varsity!

Did they ever explain on TV why there wasn't a 10 second runoff there? The previous play gained a first down, but ended inbounds, so the clock should have restarted. UGA was out of timeouts, so they couldn't stop it. So why no runoff?
only applies if the clock is running

I was totally confused what to do on our last 4th and short. The 'Chart' says you have to punt right there but knowing our defense I would have had no issue if Butch had gone for it there. When the punt went out at the 1 foot line I still had this feeling in my stomach that 99 yards and 2 feet wasn't enough.
My gosh...I can't take much more of this!
my mind was saying when the ran the offense out to get to the line and snap it quick as the pups would never expect that and with the backer in our left AGap just slant right and power. In that situation Hurd is good for six inches

I can never recall ever seeing a flag picked up after a block in the back call. If I've seen one I don't remember it.
especially after replays on the Jumbotron showed the block in the back

Mixed night Punting: Really a bad night by the punter. His worst night kicking the ball all year. The TD return was caused primarily a low, line drive kick (not helped by incompetent refs). However, a couple of good kicks and an amazing kick at the end. He got it off quick and hit the best wedge shot of the weekend.
Punt returns: The puppies were scared to kick to us and the one punt we were allowed to return Cam made the first guy miss and had a good return.
Kick offs and kick returns: won that battle hands down. Berry is a weapon. Our kick coverage is very, very good.

DL: played essentially only Burnett and Lewis at DE. Not sure I saw #50 in the game. At DT Acey Ducey played well till Tuttle was taken out by a cheap shot. The DL played the run a lot better in the 2nd half. Pressure was ok, needs to be better and more consistent. Improved from last week.
LB: I thought that while their numbers were not great that R-M and Kirtland had good games. #51 played better and Smith had a few good plays in limited action. R-M got the obligatory dirty player screems from the MORONs do the puppy nation (when they weren't screaming incredible STUPIDITY about our reaction to Chubb's injury). The reality is it was a good play #1 by the defense and an unfortunate injury.
DB: I think TK will be the starter going forward. Other than a missed tackle on the West boundary and the dropped pick he played very, very well. Randolph improved after two bad (IMO) games. Cam is still struggling a bit but that is a relative struggle. I hope Martin is the opposite corner going forward. We still struggle at nickel. Very inconsistent.
Coaching: Jancek was very aggressive all night. We sent 6 several times. Randolph was a LB a lot again in nickel and played a lot better, key adjustment was playing Acey Ducey a lot more, forced UGA to change their run game, effective win for the defense. Shown more decisiveness in making personnel decisions (TK and Martin come to mind). Improved, lots to work on, especially in the secondary.

OL: Only one sack but difficulty running the ball (against a very good defense) and several breakdowns. However, better than recent play. The kids did well. We ran effectively behind them. UGA blitzed at them several times in the 2nd half and for the most part picked it up well. I saw enough to believe our best OL lineup includes them going forward.
WRU: For the seconds consecutive game the WRs stepped up. The difference this week is they had the ball thrown to them. We are limited in numbers, really only playing 4, wit hitch limited PT by #81. Malone has stepped up his game and is starting to show the talent he had coming out of HS. Two big issues that need correcting going forward are too many drops and they really, really need to step up their blocking. Breakdowns? Biggest was allowing the Mike to blow up a run by Hurd that led to their TD..
RB: This just in, Hurd is a beast! "Only" 80 yards but he earned each and every one of them. He also had a key blitz pickup in the 2nd half on a third down catch to the TE as well as several lead blocks for Dobbs. Kamara was a bit of disappointment running but had some key catches including 2 TDs.
QB: Dobbs is deservedly getting a lot of honors this morning. He had an outstanding game, really his first game this year showing his athleticism. However he still is NOT a good passing QB. He left well over a hundred yards on the field with bad passing. Even Smith's game changing TD was not that well thrown. That being said he did what we wanted him to do last week and put the team on his back and carried/willed the team to victory.
Coaching: after questioning play calling last week probably not near as much across the VOL nation this week. The biggest difference is we looked down field this week. Also, the next men up were prepared on the OL. Still a couple of series left scratching one's head but how much of that is poor execution, probing, setting something up for later we don't know. I do know we kept the foot on the throttle, even the last series, where just a good play by the UGA defense prevented the first down. We ran 90 plays and that is taking the play clock down to 5 seconds on the last series.
Bottom line is a good, not great game by the offense and a lot of good film to work from during the open date.
