Title: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 12, 2013, 09:13:00 EST Anyone ever had Zombie Dust? I have not, but because of it's high score at beeradvocate.com, I thought I'd try brewing a 5 gallon recipe I found for it (8 oz. of Citra Hops!!). I'd like to know how close I came. I just brewed it today, so it should be ready in a month and a half to two months.
Anyone who can compare and contrast for me gets a free bottle or two shipped to his, or her, door. Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: VinnieVOL on January 13, 2013, 01:57:46 EST Is this sort of like the Wine Post?
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: PirateVOL on January 13, 2013, 02:01:49 EST Is this sort of like the Wine Post? what's this "Wine Post" you refer to? :confused:Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 13, 2013, 04:05:04 EST Is this sort of like the Wine Post? Kind of the opposite in that I'm ignorant of what Zombie Dust should be like. Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 13, 2013, 04:06:09 EST what's this "Wine Post" you refer to? It has been too long. What's been afflicting your liver lately, Droner? Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on January 13, 2013, 05:15:33 EST Which clone recipe did you use? And which supplier did you buy the Citra hops from? Inquiring mind wants to know.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 13, 2013, 03:42:13 EST Here's the recipe I used: http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/5920/zombie-dust-clone-extract.
I got the Cites from Austin homebrew supply. They were Hop Union brand. Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on January 13, 2013, 05:15:36 EST Many thanks. If I get brave enough I may try that myself. All the reviews look good. Please post how yours turns out.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 14, 2013, 01:59:41 EST I used a yeast starter on this batch and the fermentation was fast and furious. It blew out my stopper and airlock. If you end up doing this recipe, I'd suggest using a blow-off hose rather than an airlock.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on January 14, 2013, 06:17:31 EST How big is your primary fermenter?
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 14, 2013, 06:22:35 EST The one I used was a 6 gallon Better Bottle. I have some 7.5 gallon buckets that I use for primaries as well. I should have used one of those for this batch.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: droner on January 14, 2013, 06:33:15 EST It has been too long. What's been afflicting your liver lately, Droner? Usually no wine posts during the sports seasons. Although I don't know if you can call what we've been going through as sports seasons. :bowrofl: :bawl: My wine ramblings will return in the near future. Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 19, 2013, 05:15:13 EST I just racked to the secondary fermenter and the aroma is very good. I'll keep it in the secondary for at least 10 days dry hopped with 3 more ounces of Citra.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on January 20, 2013, 03:05:15 EST Did you resanitize and reuse your stopper and airlock when they got blown out or did you just go ahead and use a blow-off tube? Either way, looking forward to hearing the results.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on January 20, 2013, 04:28:01 EST I resanitized the stopper and airlock. I kept a closer eye on it and the fermentation had slowed down enough. I'll send you some if you want and if it turns out ok.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on January 20, 2013, 04:52:18 EST That would be cool, but at this time I'm afraid I have nothing to offer in return.
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on February 02, 2013, 09:44:47 EST I just finished bottling this batch and I'm very impressed with. I drank an entire pint of it even though it's still flat. No need for a trade, Corn; if you want a few, I'll send you some.
I think I love Citra hops. Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: CornFromAJar on February 07, 2013, 05:52:54 EST It's hard to say no to that. Thanks! I had some Sierra Nevada Torpedo the other day (it's supposed to have Citra hops in it). Ever had any?
Title: Re: Beer Aficionados Post by: Stogie Vol on February 07, 2013, 02:13:55 EST Not yet, but I'll pick some up soon. Thanks.
