Title: Beer Aficionados
Post by: Stogie Vol on January 12, 2013, 09:13:00 EST
Anyone ever had Zombie Dust? I have not, but because of it's high score at beeradvocate.com, I thought I'd try brewing a 5 gallon recipe I found for it (8 oz. of Citra Hops!!). I'd like to know how close I came. I just brewed it today, so it should be ready in a month and a half to two months.

Anyone who can compare and contrast for me gets a free bottle or two shipped to his, or her, door.

Is this sort of like the Wine Post?

Kind of the opposite in that I'm ignorant of what Zombie Dust should be like.

It has been too long. What's been afflicting your liver lately, Droner?

Which clone recipe did you use?  And which supplier did you buy the Citra hops from?  Inquiring mind wants to know.

Here's the recipe I used: http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/5920/zombie-dust-clone-extract.

I got the Cites from Austin homebrew supply. They were Hop Union brand.

Many thanks.  If I get brave enough I may try that myself.  All the reviews look good.  Please post how yours turns out.

I used a yeast starter on this batch and the fermentation was fast and furious.  It blew out my stopper and airlock. If you end up doing this recipe, I'd suggest using a blow-off hose rather than an airlock.

How big is your primary fermenter?

The one I used was a 6 gallon Better Bottle.  I have some 7.5 gallon buckets that I use for primaries as well. I should have used one of those for this batch.

Usually no wine posts during the sports seasons. Although I don't know if you can call what we've been going through as sports seasons.   :bowrofl:  :bawl:

My wine ramblings will return in the near future.

I just racked to the secondary fermenter and the aroma is very good.  I'll keep it in the secondary for at least 10 days dry hopped with 3 more ounces of Citra.

Did you resanitize and reuse your stopper and airlock when they got blown out or did you just go ahead and use a blow-off tube? Either way, looking forward to hearing the results.

I resanitized the stopper and airlock. I kept a closer eye on it and the fermentation had slowed down enough. I'll send you some if you want and if it turns out ok.

That would be cool, but at this time I'm afraid I have nothing to offer in return.

I just finished bottling this batch and I'm very impressed with. I drank an entire pint of it even though it's still flat. No need for a trade, Corn; if you want a few, I'll send you some.

I think I love Citra hops.

It's hard to say no to that. Thanks! I had some Sierra Nevada Torpedo the other day (it's supposed to have Citra hops in it). Ever had any?

Not yet, but I'll pick some up soon. Thanks.
