Title: Did any of y'all grow up going to this park? Post by: VOLveeta on February 13, 2015, 04:16:26 EST It's gotten a lot of play on the net lately as the "mysterious abandoned park"... but it was a huge part of my childhood. I dug up the old original postcards...

When I was a young we went to something similar in Maggie Valley NC. You would ride chair lifts up a mountain and there was a western ghost town up there where they had gunfights, saloons etc... Post by: Creek Walker on February 13, 2015, 06:32:32 EST I went to Ghostown as a kid and loved it. The working gal from the saloon came and sat on my knee. It was the most awesome thing ever.

IIRC it was 1963 when I first went there....I was about 10 years old I remember. Went back again in the late 60's too. Thanks for sharing that site!! That swinging bridge scared the s#$t out of me when I was about 8 years old. Tweetsie RR and Land of Oz were also very cool.

Post by: Black Diamond Vol on February 14, 2015, 12:55:05 EST I never went to that one, but couple parks that I did grow up with are no more: Opryland in Nashville, and Six Gun Territory in Ocala, Fl. My grandparents lived there, and we'd go to visit them at least twice a year. A trip to SGT and/or Silver Springs was a must while we were there.

It's now a little place called Dollywood. Title: Re: Did any of y'all grow up going to this park? Post by: CornFromAJar on February 14, 2015, 03:44:46 EST I remember that World's Fair, but I had forgotten that commercial. I think the inspiration for that commercial was Les Nessman's intro on WKRP, in a booming, reverb voice... "London, Moscow, Paris, Berlin... Cincinnati!"

I didn't know that weeki wachee mermaid park was still open. I went there back in the early 70's. Title: Re: Did any of y'all grow up going to this park? It was a much more innocent time and we seemed to be able to enjoy life without everything having to be the ultimate greatest anywhere. We enjoyed stuff just for what it was. |
