Emeril, you know this is a great move by Saban, and don't act like you don't! I tell ya it's pure brillance on his part! No question our S&C coach can get these middle-age guys in shape, the graduation rates will increase, and with the COC on board as recruits the acts of thugery should greatly decrease. I just don't see these old guys knocking the heck out people for their lap top! Heck, they would probably just try to SELL them the dang laptop!!!....:)

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Are Bama's football facilities nicer than UT's?
|
on: February 07, 2013, 01:01:19 EST

Alabama has made drastic improvements in their facilities over the past 5 years or so. That was part of Saban's agreement coming in.
Their weight room is tremendous, but since UT has built its new facility, UT has matched it.
UT did lag behind in facilities for a few years, but with the new training facility and other improvements that have or are being done, we are getting back in the upper echelon of facilities once again.
The old weight room was completed just a few years ago and just before Saban took over. Bama's newest facility has been built since UT built theirs. BG

I respectfully to Bandit have no comment to make Come on Bandit, I'm just joking, hey I once posted that I thought Dubose would make someone a good head coach! I just really meant a good head coach at somewhere other than Bama!... BG

I happen to have a Masonic brother that actually played for Neyland and also a couple of other Masonic brothers that attended the same church as Neyland and let me tell you that Neyland may not have been from UT or graduated from here but Neyland was ALL ORANGE. The player that I spoke about has been down to my tailgates several times over the course of the last couple of years and he has told us some wonderful stories about Neyland and playing for Neyland along with his association with Doug Atkins, Hank Lauricella, and many other players and coaches. He has told me Neyland was a big believer in UT and The Orange and Knoxville. One of my Dr friends that attended the same church that Neyland attended told me Neyland was extremely upset when he lost (which wasn't often and he HATED to ever get bested by the Commodedoors.)
While Neyland was here he was a great supporter of the local community and told many this was his home after so many years in the Army and travelling all over. While Jones is not a "UT Ex PLayer" I like his passion and mentality. He has the kind of fire I never saw from Dooley or Kiffin. Kiffin was interested in one thing only and that was Kiffin and his whatever was on his mind.
If you can't get behind the coach because of some thoughts that he is not a "homerun hire" well I suggest you find a new team to support because I got a feeling that there will be more people on the bandwagon as soon as he starts winning, and I aint holding your seat for you when this happens......
Great post by you, my friend. Also, TRO's post about Miles, Saban etc., coming into the SEC was dead on. BG

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: It's a miracle bammer won it last year with McCarron as QB

Saban, as much as I loathe him, did a masterful job of getting his OC to give AJ plays he could handle. Of course, having a running back like Richardson, an all-NFL O Line and an NFL defense was the main reason they won, but they hid McCarron's weaknesses very well. He has been exposed bigtime this season. As good as the bammer D is this year, they can't top last year's. I hate to admit it, but it was one of the greatest D's of all time. Lot of time left in the game and uga is only up 7, but I like their chances. We were in Atlanta for the game. I can hardly talk this am because I and the entire stadium of Tide and Dawg fans yelled our lungs off. What a game by both teams. BG

You would think someone would spill the beans, real estate agents, utility company, tailors (specially if we go with any orange shirts or pants. ), people at refueling terminals, but either the candidate is wearing a disguise or nobody knows who he is. Believe it or not, but sometimes that is how the beans are spilled. When Shula was hired at Bama, a poster on BamaOnLine posted he knew for a fact Shula would be the coach. After the announcement, he told how he knew. They had already picked out their residence and his wife called his company-cable- to set up an appointment tor installation. True! Also Iris, our mutual friend Biz was the lone poster for a long time saying he knew Saban would be the coach, even after all the denials from him and the national press. Later he told me how he knew, and it was someone very well connected with the University (understatement) who was good friends with his family. BG

Same name being tossed around the talk radio shows this am in B'ham for the Auburn Tigers. I would really be surprised if UT goes this route considering the other names that have been linked to the Tennessee job.
With potential probation hanging over Auburn, this may be the only "big name" experienced head coach they can get.

I was really hoping they would keep him on for another year, but knew they probably wouldn't. I don't want them competing with us and Arkansas for a great coach.
With the NCAA cloud hanging over Jordan-Hare, you should have few concerns about competition. BG

That first post was the best I've ever read by you. I had no idea you could make so much sense.... This vol team still has a chance to be good. Bray and the wideouts give you the opportunity to score on anyone and from any where on the field. The D is a work in progress with a unit trying to learn a complicated system which takes time. They should get better as the season rolls on. You have far better players on the defensive side than just two years ago...big difference. BG

Thanks, Emeril. How do I get into the parking lot? I tried once last year, but they would not let me into the lot as my name was not on the list.
I was working the entrance gate. It's bad enough with all the vols gathered there, but I draw the line when even dang Auburn Tigers show up! Just not having that! BG
