The numbers you give are what UT is owed if he leaves on his own accord.  If he is terminated by UT it is $2M/year left on contract.  That is too high.  The $3M salary per year should have been high enough with only a minimal buyout.  Hopefully it won't matter.

The numbers you give are what UT is owed if he leaves on his own accord.  If he is terminated by UT it is $2M/year left on contract.  That is too high.  The $3M salary per year should have been high enough with only a minimal buyout.  Hopefully it won't matter.

Mitigated by the coach's earnings, though. If we have to fire him but he takes another coaching job, we don't owe him whatever he is paid at the other job. That may not seem like a big deal but it could make a substantial difference. Depending on the nature of his performance before he is fired, a school could still have enough interest in him to pay $1M+. He's young enough that I doubt he'd want to go long between coaching gigs.

That is what will save us some $$ for those assistants not retained (see Sal)
