I wasn't impressed with him as an announcer, other than he had a lot of funny stories (for instance, the time Kareem knocked out a couple of his teeth with an elbow). I was watching a Pac 12 game a few years ago, and he said "the Pac 12 is the greatest conference, I stand by that". So, he would say silly things like that. I liked him, but I would not say he was a "good" announcer, other than as a comedian.

interesting. I lived on the campus of Johnson my first year in Tennessee. We moved to Tennessee because my father's employer moved, and we moved with them from Indiana. This was 1982, the country was still in recession and interest rates near a record high, so Johnson let us rent graduate student housing the first year or so in town because my father's employer was in business with them. We sold our house in Indiana for a 320% profit (that was due to 70s inflation...the house was 10K in 1971, sold for 32K in 1982, not sure what the inflation adjusted profit was), interest rates were 22% and my 3 siblings were in college, so rather than spend the house money on a new house my parents decided to spend it on rent and tuition. Speaking of which, my parents sacrificed so that all their four children could go to college (and one sister dropped out after a single semester, but the other three have done well with their respective degrees). Man do I appreciate more each day what they did for us as I go through adulthood, particularly now that they are in retirement homes. I do pay a bit extra out of my own pocket so my mother can have her own room. It's the least I can do. But yeah, I know Johnson college really well...lived there for a year or two . Back then it was Johnson Bible College.

I hope he wins it all. They are reminding me of the Braves. Monsters in the regular season, then come down to earth in the post season. Look at all those regular season homers the Braves wasted in the post season last year.
Does anyone else hear sharting noises in the background when volsboy posts? It's like, no matter what, he's just going to shizzle all over everything

It won't hurt my feelings if they go out early. These conference tournaments sometimes reward only teams that get hot and not the team(s) that performed well over the entire season.
If we win it, fine. I always want to win. But the important action starts afterwards.
It seems that teams doing well in conference tourneys struggle in the big show also, so theres that.

I don't have a problem with them going for new blood. It worked for bammer, though it was on the 3rd try. The first try (Franchone) left under his own volition, and the second (Price) was only on the job for a few days. Then they went with Shula, who was very mediocre. Then 4th try the charm...satan.
The last "bars boy" was Mike Dumbose, though Mike Shula was a bammer player under Perkins, so though not a "bars boy" he did have a bammer tie.

One positive is that a lot of them are going to quit following the Lady Vols.
I will say the one comparing Barnes win percentage to Kellie's did have a great point. Its fair to point out that Barnes did (finally!) make an Elite Eight this year for the first time every at (the real) UT, but prior to that his tourney record wasn't really any better than Kellie's and he had a slightly worse win percentage (has).
To which a rejoinder is....the standard for success of the LVs is much higher than for the Men's. LVs have 8 natys, men's have never even made the FF. Additionally, Barnes win percentage the last 3 or 4 seasons is MUCH BETTER than that 0.667 for his career at (the real) UT.
Still...very interesting to compare her to Barnes. That's about the only thing that impressed me out of the entire mess of those emails.

Authored by the 2nd ranked MORON of the kns, behind only to the #badword# John Adams I don't know him from Adam ( ), but to be fair, he is not at all taking the side of the fans. If anything, he is exposing them as the idiots they are.

I have known this about Dabo for some time. Holy T Rex Batman! He is 100% fizzleed imo. If he can maintain a top level program without any transfers, he absolutely is the GOAT. Don't see it happening though.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Dafuq 3 0 loss to vandy

Did we throw this one on purpose? I was listeing on the radio while driving all over Knoxville yesterday (went to see Mom with my brother at her rehabe facility, then went to Dad's assisted living home and took him to see her, then took him back to his place, then back to their (sadly empty except when I or a sibling visit) house, packed up, drove back to Huntsville, all while listening to the 3 0 debacle on the radio.
I think the Vols only had 3 hits, all by the same guy. Vandy scored early also.
Im like...WTF...I know the Vols can hit better than that.
Anyone have any theories on the loss? I know I often hear "sometimes it just goes that way in baseball" so maybe it was just one of those days.
But could it be that Coach V wasn't trying that hard, kind of like how the bball team got embarassed in the SECT?
Side note...the baseball radio broadcast has only a broadcaster, no color guy, no sideline reporter, but does a very good job of descringin the play by play. No chatter about strategy or "what will the coach do", etc. In fact, I will say that might even be desireable for football and basketball. Maybe they should give it a try (Not with Kesling though!)

Well if you grew up in North Knoxville --- you knew where the original Louis' Pizza Restaurant was! And I remember when the brothers had a fight and 1 opened a 2nd Louis' restaurant next door to the original. And in Lonsdale, where my grandparents lived until retirement, there was a small restaurant where we went to Sunday dinner (Heath's I believe was the name) after church at Euclid Ave. Baptist Church! Lordy the memories when I was little with my granny and grandpa in that area! Sometimes when I'm in Knoxville visiting now, I still go by their old house. Oh, and I used to watch the Cas Walker show in the early mornings just to hear Ms. Dolly Parton sing -- I loved hearing her then and now. PLUS, we used to vacation every summer in Pitman Center (where she was raised) -- and walk to the Parton store for ice cream! . Kay's Ice Cream with the big ice cream cone outside was a S Knoxville icon, and had been since the 50s I think, when I moved to Knoxville in 1982. Kay's closed (sadly) during the pandemic, but the ice cream cone is still there, and there is a Thai restaurant where Kay's used to be, but it does serve ice cream of some sort. So who won between the Louis brothers, or did they both go out of bidness?

Bet we aren't the #1 seed no matter how we play the last two series Our RPI is #8 currently So being #1 now doiesn't mean squat or even the square root of squat
This. Plus I am currently pushing back against all kinds of curses and superstitions. For instance, we will beat Florida by 30 points this fall, in a long overdue and well deserved ass beating.

10-2? Maybe. I see a couple games that could go either way, and likely will. I have noticed they always, every single year, play a ridiculous OOC schedule. I know everyone's OOC schedule is soft, but theirs is absolutely 4 guaranteed wins. Actually, Boston College is a big step up for them. Might be their toughest OOC in 20 years, though for all I know BC might be in a down phase. Anyway, agree that it sucks we don't get to repay them for last year. Having said that...we COULD get a rematch in the game that counts. Is it likely? of course not. Possible though, at least until the season actually starts.

Well, S Knox County has always been a bit "different" yup. I stumbled across a still while hiking in my junior or senior year....most likely senior year. In fact, I found more than one over time. I found a couple that were abandoned and old, and at least one that was active. When I was in HS and we lived in the Kimberlin Heights area (my parents house is still there, although they are both now in homes for the elderly), in my HS head, the countryside all around their house was open country and not owned by anyone. I guess I thought it belonged to the state of Tennseesee. So I would hike through the woods for miles away from my parents house, mostly in the winter when there wasn't much else to do. Took the family dog sometimes. And now I realize I was trespassing the entire time. Probably lucky I wasn't shot at some point.
