The last time the Vols opened a season 0 & 2 against non conference teams?

It’s never happened before!

The last time we started 0&2....

Most here remember starting the ‘88 season 0&6.  However those were 6 pretty decent teams.  The silver lining of the 88 season:  we ended the season on a 5 game winning streak and thus started one of the greatest eras of Big Orange Football.  One can still hope, I guess.
