It doesn't help that A&M shot almost 40% from the three point line. And we shot like crap.

The whole game was full of crap.

1st half:
16:18-13:24 = 2:54
12:23-8:06 = 4:17
6:49-4:33 = 2:16
4:33-0 = 4:33

2nd half:
20:00-15:28 = 4:32
15:28-13:30 = 2:58
12:48-10:24 = 2:24
9:45-8:12 = 1:33
5:56-4:20 = 1:36

Runs totaling 27 minutes and 3 seconds without scoring a FG tonight. I left out several runs that were just over 1 minute. Also, during some of those runs we did make some free throws (Tennessee did not go a total of 27 minutes without scoring).

==================

1st half:
16:18-13:24 = 3:06
12:22-9:09 = 3:13
6:49-4:33 = 2:16
3:36-0 = 3:36

2nd half:
20:00-15:28 = 4:32
15:28-13:39 = 1:49
2:12-0:11 = 2:01

Runs totaling 20:33 without scoring any points at all. I did not include any segments that were under 1:30 (there were at least three that were between 1:10 and 1:29). That means that for almost 25 of the 40 minutes Tennessee did not score a point.

The final margin was exacerbated by the fact that one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the country was out of their minds from the perimeter, especially in the first half. But we weren't beating anyone playing like we did tonight. And I mean ANYONE.

Horrible showing.  What stuck out for me is that Tamu came out on fire, by which I mean mostly their enthusiasm and energy, and we were flat most of the game.  The result is what you get from that.

I will say that when Knecht had to sit, the team finally showed some life.  So for about the last 8 minutes they got some energy and fought hard, but it was far too late at that point.

And then last night A&M loses to Vandy.

It's why I can't get all excited about us...We are way inconsistent to go very far. In other words....I know how this story ends.

What's funny is many Vols fans stated early in the season that this may the best Vols team ever. What happened? To me it is typical Vols basketball. Good enough to beat anyone one night, bad enough to lose to anyone the next. Seems like that is a recurring theme for Barnes coached teams. Hopefully they get on a run come March.

I'm going to push back on the inconsistent thing a bit.  It's not "every other game" its a pretty infrequent thing. In the SEC schedule, I can think of two games....out of ten.  That's hardly "every other game".  It's also less inconsistency than the past few seasons.

I will admit that there have been some games closer than they should have been, but I will submit that in the last 2-3 years we would have lost those games.  Vandy comes to mind, for sure.

I am not giving the team a complete pass on this...they absolutely were not ready to play Tamu and there is no excuse for that.

I'm just not going to climb on the ledge with you yet....
