Sports / VTTW Message Board / Do you remember the UT-Bama feelings

You had over the years.....It was what was talked about the week or weeks leading up to the game.....It was the 3rd Saturday in October. Remember the knot in the stomach because the outcome of this game, win or lose would stay with you for 12 months. Remember the feeling of walking into Neyland or Legions Field in Birmingham or that hell hole town in Tuscaloosa. I remember those feelings and DAMN I miss them.

Jones is too scared of failure to put his offensive skill players in a position to succeed until forced to when behind. If you do not call plays that allow the QB to throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield when the defense is crowding the line, how can you expect to win. How can you expect to win when OL blocking is non-existent? OL either gets overpowered or outrun by smaller players or just overpowered. Yes is is scheme when you do not call a play or adjust if your WRs do not catch the ball. Execution is a problem when the coaching staff fails abysmally to train the team on how to win. If the player you select to be on the field does not perform, it is the failure of the coach. You selected to sign him. You coached him through the week. You praise him about "such a good week in practice". Then he goes out on Saturday and looks lost. It is coaching, not execution.
Spot on 73Volgrad......Has it been odd to anyone else that in our 3 bowl games under Butch that our offense goes ball out? We see plays we didn't see all season....we see formations, play calls, letting athletes be athletes and we wonder where has that been? The the next season we are back to running between the tackles and throwing 3 yard outs! It appears in bowl games Butch knows there is no tomorrow so lets let it all hang out but when there is a tomorrow you couldn't drive a 10 penny nail up Butch's ass.

Petrino offense without Petrino baggage. Our days of not throwing the ball down the field would definitely end. I love Brohm, he will make someone a great coach, but I would much prefer we go for a defensive guru, maybe Schiano or Venables. As Petrino found out when Grantham left, putting up big numbers won't win games when the other team is doing the same. Easier to hire an innovative, exciting OC than a lockdown DC. Other than Urban, the current top coaches built a defense first.
^Exactly! Give me defense!

Here's another thought. I think both Brohm of Purdue and Justin Wilcox of Cal might be great candidates, but each is in his respective first year. So if we have to bring in Cut, he stays 3 years max and we take whichever of those two does better. Just a thought. Don't think Wilcox will ever come back East....He's a West coast guy to the hilt. First chance he got to head back to the left coast he bolted.

Apparently they failed to consider that we just had the best two years in the last twenty, and thoroughly discounted our resolve and resiliency. I have only two words for the oddsmakers, Leadership Reps.
But Butch did tell the odds makers that 60% of our team has never been to Tuscaloosa, AL.

We're currently at 10+ quarters without a TD. Do I hear 14? I'm seriously thinking about not even watching on TV. And it's not like I have anything better to do that day. I'll probably be watching some other game, in fact. Someone convince me why I shouldn't. "Someone convince me why I shouldn't." Wish I could but I have nothing

I really couldn't care less what anyone in that family has to say. As flawed as our offense may be, it sure didn't seem to slow Alvin Kamara down last year. You know, the guy who is an early NFL Rookie of the Year frontrunner while Jalen is riding the pine and pouting in the football backwater that is Waco, TX. In fact, with the benefit of hindsight, it's pretty clear now that Butch's biggest mistake on the offensive side last year was not starting Kamara and benching Hurd sooner.
But I wish Jalen well at Baylor. Maybe they'll actually win a game next year. Not that any of the Hurds actually care about such team goals.
^Black Diamond with the walk off.

Scott has never met a 1st down he didn't like to run it between the tackles.......OL is worse than last year....we thought it was Mahoney, NOPE it's Botch's scheme. Do we have WR's that can beat a NAIA defense? The defense is good for about 3 series....after that they are done. Allowed USC to have their best rushing game of the season when it was said all week in the media that USC was a bad rushing team and our DBs can't cover a bed with a blanket.
I've seen UT teams that were bad on D but good on O.....and the other way around. We are bad on both sides and don't see it getting any better. I see 1 or 2 more wins.
