UT is paying them 1.2 mil. That's probably a sizeable chunk of their annual football budget.

Yep, but after UAB writes a buyout check for $925K it will be less than a $300K outlay.

That sounds like a good deal.  What's the purpose of playing in Nashville?  Recruiting?

Yes, and supposedly to reduce by one game the taxes that the city of Knox is collecting off of the tickets.

More info on the money:

S.C. State backed out of a game against BG. No word on whether they had to pay.

As Herb said, UT gets $975,000 from UAB (I thought they were out of money). BG gets 1.2 million from UT.

And then there's the kicker: Per the previous agreement with the Music City Bowl to play the game in Nashville, the Music City Bowl is guaranteed $400,000 from the game. Tennessee gets the first $2 million in gate receipts, plus 80 percent of the revenue above $2 million with the Music City Bowl getting the other 20 percent. Tennessee is entitled to all revenue from program sales, parking and concessions.

And as Pirate said: No Knoxville taxes.

I assume gate rcpts alone are going to be at least 5-6 mil?  I guess it's kinda cool that the Music City Bowl association is involved.  Wasn't there some speculation that this game might be moved to a Sun?

I had forgotten we open against UAB next year.

So I wonder what the rule is with their players?  They should be able to transfer without sitting out a year IMO.  In which case, do they have a decent OL or two we can grab?

The school is freely granting releases (why would they not, lol) so it turns out all their players can transfer and not sit a year.  I wonder if any would fit at UT?

UAB has a LT that has 22 starts and is a Soph.....By all accounts the kid is a player and will be picked up pretty quickly.

Let's get him at UT!  We could use him.
