after making the tournament...

Second coach to go down after making the tournament. UCLA fired Howland yesterday although this was probably overdue.

Minnesota isn't going to hire a better basketball coach than is Tubby Smith.

This one is just stupid.

Win 20 games five times in six seasons — at Minnesota, no less — and get fired. Yeah, makes sense.

Seems to be a play by the ADs (both came from VCU recently) to hopefully get Shaka to come with them to Minnesota... I say highly doubtful it happens!

Yep...hard place to recruit to.

From what I've been told what got Tubby is since he's been there he's never finished above .500 in the Big 10 conf.

I have a harder time justifying Howland.  I know expectations at UCLA are sky high, and I know they've been down the past few seasons, but he's taken them to, what- 4 Final Fours?  Wow.

I think a big part of his undoing has been Calipari's "recruiting" at UK.  Whereas he was once able to sign a Kevin Love or Russell Westbrook every year, these days, just about all of those types end up in Lexington.

There has been some shadiness at UCLA with the players and recruiting, which IMO is why he's gone.  Nothing major, but enough to get fired, apparently.

Tubby is a great coach. He is a lot like Don Devoe. Both men are great teachers of defensive style of basketball. Both men would never cheat to win.

after making the tournament...

He was 46-62 in Big 10 games,  pretty sure they expected better than that when they signed to a multimillion dollar contract.
