I tried my best to give that rat bastard Dooley the benefit of the doubt and allow him to prove me wrong, and in the end that is exactly what he did - prove me wrong. After that first year every time I heard him talk I felt like I needed to take a shower.

People are rarely great or awful in any facet of life. Dooley is a smart, organized guy who did a very good job acquiring talent. The whole winning football games thing was another matter.

Reading those I noticed a post by XHotlanta. His stats say his last post here was two years ago? Where is he? Or did he change his handle and I've forgotten?

FWIW, this is probably quite typical of me (and others) and it's worth pointing out. I was skeptical before the hire . . . January 14, 2010: In 3 seasons at La Tech he is 17-20. He won 4 games last year. He was never even a coordinator prior to this job, so it's not like you can point to some amazing work there. Surely not.But within months I was defending Dooley. April 17, 2010: At the very least, Dooley has shown that he is a terrible salesman of the program I think that's total crap. Dooley has done nothing to show me he's a terrible salesman of the program. I think in his public speaking he's sold the program quite well and clearly he has on the recruiting trail as well. The minor scrapes with the media-- and I think that's all these are-- do not make him a poor salesman. He's playing it close to the vest, which in itself has risks. But IMO that's a specific and small problem, not a problem with his overall "sell" of the program.BOM was absolutely right in this early criticism of Dooley. That would continue because he never ever became a figure that endeared people to Tennessee or attracted the attention of recruits and parents. I wasn't the only one to defend Dooley from this accusation and I think we were all doing gymnastics at this point . . . already, 4 months in.

The funny thing is if Dooley had gotten even a mediocre DC UT would have had a decent year last year and he'd (Dooley) still be here. For want of a nail the horse was lost...

I too could never understand how he was named head coach at UT with that dismal record at La Tech. The Dooley name and his association with Saban should not have trumped that record. You called it from day 1. BG

After seeing your post, I exchanged a couple e-mails with XHotlanta. He is doing fine. He said he got to feeling like "an old 'sour-puss' on the board, always complaining and highly dissatisfied with the Vols' fortunes (or misfortunes)" so he's been on a little board hiatus. I have a feeling he'll be back.
