They were talking this on Knoxville sports radio all through Christmas. Old news.

Actually I have found some of the shows on the Sports Animal to be amazing sources of information on the Vols.  But for the record, one of the talking heads was pretty sure it was going to be Mayo and he was right.  Thus it was not a shock to me.

I pick up all kinds of interesting tidbits that you won't find anywhere else.  For instance, they said a big part of Barron transferring is that he is really an LB, and has a much better shot at the NFL at LB than DE, and Ole Miss will let him play LB.  And I could go on, but I typically hear all kinds of stuff on sports radio in Ktown you can't hear anywhere else.

Good for him. But what makes them think he would be head coach material? Does he even want it?

Considering it was written into his last contract, yeah they think he will do it and he wants to do it
Go back and read some article in that time frame
They locked him in so that nobody else would

If he had exited gracefully along with Brady, then I would agree. But his past 3 seasons aren?t exactly a tough act to follow. OTOH Saban may not have been at his peak, but he was pretty damn close.

100%.  If anything, he showed that it was really mostly Brady all those years.  When Brady won the Super Bowl at TB, vs. what happened at NE, I think pretty much the entire world saw what was really going on.

Or...maybe most of the world?
