We all agree he has upgraded our roster at least some.......more on offense than defense but across the board it has been upgraded. We have a lot of 2nd tier guys playing defense it seems........this tells us how bad was our roster before.

The good news is with the right coach these guys can perform up to a point and that will be quite a bit better than what we have now. Our hope lies in Hart being able to hire the right guy. If Chaney is here next year I will pull what hair I have left out!

Exactly.  I've been saying all along that we have enough talent in place for the right coach to win right away.

Hope you're right.

I have no problems with Chaney, but I had no problems with Cut either.  Anytime you are in the top 20 in scoring, it can't possibly be a bad thing.

But if you don't like Chaney...maybe just bump him upstairs to HC.  I think he would do a wonderful job.

If Tennessee can't get the big names. Art Briles of Baylor would be nice and so would Gus Mahlzan of Tulsa

Well, here's how I rationalize it.  We know what this offense is capable of, because we've seen it all season.  And even if they lose Bray, Hunter, and CP, they wil still bring back 4 starting OL, Neal (who I expect to REALLY breakout next year), and 2 QBs who have been in the system for a while.  And that's the WORST case scenario.  If one or more of the underclassmen return, it's just icing on the cake.

As for the defense, we know that this group, with decent coaching, is at least capable of being average, because they were average last year.  If this year's team has just an average defense, they're 8-2 at worst right now.  This unit will also return a ton of experience.  All they need is the proper guidance.

Hate to say it but there are rumblings that our junior ol might also be high draft picks and are thinking about it. Hope not.

They have all the tools to be highly thought of by the NFL. We just wasted them with sorry coaching. All 5 may play in the NFL.

With a good Coach this team would at least be 9-3

8-4 or 9-3. That is with the benefit of hindsight though. However that is how the decision to keep or fire will be made.....looking back at what should have been.

The sad truth is most teams go through this type of wilderness when trying to replace a coach. The lucky few that don't are the lucky few. I hope the next one will be the guy but he has to have enough sense to know you can't finesse your way through to the SECC.

Allow me to retort!
After three years of the bargain-basement coach they should be flush with cash.

Just not sure that Malzahn would be the answer.  He is strictly an offensive guy.  Offense hasn't been an issue.  We need somebody here who has some sense of what it takes to build a defense.  Offense is great, but defense separates the upper echelon SEC teams from the rest.

Agree.  Bring in a guy known for defense, and not named Monte.

As soon as Gruden (or whoever) finishes his introductory presser, he should be on a flight to Baton Rouge.

Even Superior with all his offensive hype won with defense.
