Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Vols vs. Northwestern in the Outback Bowl?

So after the bowl game last year you honestly expected Iowa to be better than the Vols this season? I didn't.
Assuming they ARE better; not just facing weaker opposition. You think that they could have done better against our schedule?

and yet everyone thinks Elway is a great GM. What kind of GM brings in a run first coach, with an inept OL, with the most prolific passer in NFL history. Doesn't make sense. They are just cementing the legacy of Peyton being the best Regular Season QB ever, while making Brady the best ever. Period. Dot. New England has a patchwork OL, yet no matter who they plug into a spot, they produce. Manning has had the best teams he has ever had around him and couldn't win another SB. As much as it hurts to admit, Brady has been doing more with less. Oh yeah, everyone will say it is because the Pats cheat.
You're riding your pony too hard; it seems to be coming up lame.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Apparently the MSU loss involved a terrible game-deciding call.

Interesting. I saw close up replays on ESPN the next day that were very good, and thought they were what the replay official saw. If he saw those and still let the call stand, he should never be a replay official again. If he didn't, I have to wonder why not.
I saw the ending live, and the instant replays they showed right away revealed the stepout and return clearly. The commentators were certain that the call would be reversed. Aren't those videos what the replay booth sees?

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I am now officially complaining about winter.....

Talking to a buddy of mine today about this......Seems like Winter has been 6 freaking months long. It was so cold here on Halloween the little trick or treaters stayed home....been cold ever since. Add the fact we had the worse Winter last year in 35 years and I'm about to go crazy. I'm retired and when I can't play golf or work in the yard it makes for long days. Played less golf since Thanksgiving than any stretch I can remember. I've watched so much improve your golf swing videos in this cold mess the past few months my golf game will be totally screwed up when I get back to the course again. I've got some golf buddies that go to Florida all Jan and Feb......If my wife wasn't 11 years younger than me and she's still working my a$$ would be down there. If next Winter is a repeat I might go down there anyway.....I'll just tell her, I love you and I'll see you in March. You're certainly welcome, but please don't bring any friends with you. We're already up to our necks in snowbirds!

Even though in St. Johns County we're miles away from her District, we still get occasional phone messages from her on our recorder (I think she just blankets all of north eastern Florida were her stuff) She is definitely "entertaining"!

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Tennessee in Austria
|

Just got off a Danube River Cruise (Birthday present for wife). We extended our trip to Austria and Switzerland. We were touring Salzburg Castle this afternoon, when I saw a guy wearing a blue ball cap with "TENNESSEE" written in full in white letters. I asked him if he was really from the Volunteer State, and he turned out to be a German who'd never been to the US. Lots of Eurobrats wear stuff marked " USA", "New York", "California", etc., but this is the first I've seen with this logo; maybe we're going big time? BTW, Euro keyboards are interesting. This'n has keys for €, ß, Ö,Ä ü, and,µ!

Like you said, nothing nre with doppler, been used for numerous different functions for a long time. I think the usefulness in this case was to determine which arc of the satelite coverage the pings came from. A saw some analysis on another forum that inidcated the shifts were very small.
Yeah, the doppler effect on an electromagnetic signal from a source traveling at only 600 mph wouldn't have much of a "red shift".
