Unless my math is bad, that would have iced the game.

Kicker was injured; punter would have had to make the attempt. He already missed one badly.

Even in a "normal" situation you might not kick it there.  The risk/reward is iffy.  If you make it, great, but if it is blocked the game could be tied in a hurry. 


Not a bad decision to go for it.  Even if you don't make it you make the opposition go 70 yards to tie the game with less than 2 minutes to go.

If he was injured then I see it as an OK call. Otherwise I think the chances of a block or bad snap wouldn't outweigh the chances of gaining a lock. If he just misses then they get the ball at the same place.

Not disagreeing with you.  Just pointing out that there could be another reason to go for it.

But in this case it was the lack of a kicker.
