I see everyone's point about nessler, but are we sure that it is danielson pulling him down? Danielsons been at it a while also so maybe he's ready to retire as well?

Nessler really seems to me to be slipping. Which is strange; he isn't that old (66).

Because if he's referencing them as "Nick" and "Kirby," he's giving his bias away without even trying. I have been on point for the broadcasts of a couple of high school games my daughter has been involved in. It's weird as heck to hear myself referencing her by her last name instead of her first name, but if I'm doing play-by-play and she's in the game, she is just another player; not my daughter. Likewise, even if Danielson is friends with Saban and Smart, they shouldn't be his friends when the broadcast starts. They're just another coach. But because Danielson is an egomaniac, he has to make sure the rest of us know that he's on a first name basis with "Nick" and "Kirby."

Mmmm, if you say so. Not something I pay attention to though.

I thought I heard him refer to Heupel as Josh. Could be wrong  This thread reminds me of listening to KY fans slice, dice, and dissect whomever is calling their basketball game. Sometimes announcers say things we don't like. Sometimes they heap praise on our team. If we are getting beat 45-14 by Alabama or Georgia, they will be raving about the winning team. Duh!

Try this: On 10/15, since our game will almost surely be the CBS game, pay attention to Danielson. See how many times he references the Alabama coach as simply "Nick" as opposed to "Saban." That's just one drop in a sea of examples, but it's enough to make him slimy. He's supposed to be a neutral observer, which means not acting like you're on a first-name basis with a coach, even if you are. He's up Kirby Smart's rearend the same way. It's like he's a professional commentator suffering from hero worship.

Secondly, Gary is just so freaking grating. You're right that I (and many others) just don't like what he says. However, it's not just because he's speaking truth to us lowly viewers who've never played college football and need to be graced with his knowledge. It's his smarmy, know-it-all attitude. He literally never shuts up. Sometimes he should just stop talking.

I really miss the days of Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried on ESPN games. IMO, they were hands down the best college football broadcasting duo that ESPN has ever employed. Sorta like Brad Nessler and Jimmy Dykes on the basketball side. And, speaking of Dykes, he is a guy who is very knowledgeable about the game, shares his knowledge, and doesn't come across as a pompous jerk when he does it. Nor does he ever allow his bias to show. Danielson could learn a lot from him.

I really like what you are saying here and agree 100%, although I think you should have thrown in a few fizzles, shizzleheads and Douchebags here & there.....

May act their dream with open eyes, to make it Possible.
This I did.
