Title: So if all this is true about Gruden, *GASP* does this mean
Post by: Volengineer on October 23, 2012, 01:10:43 EDT
having to do the unthinkable and "pull" for Spurrier to beat the Vols for the greater good of saving the program?  I say this tongue in cheek, because none of us would do that, but it is a nauseating scenario.  :hurl:

Based on what I've heard, beating SC wouldn't save him.

I'm not sold on an NFL coach coaching Tennessee. I still hope it's a college Coach

I don't think so.  I think it's already a done deal (maybe not Gruden, but Dooley's firing).

Do you realize that if we lose Saturday, and Dooley is officially fired the following Monday (as is now the hot rumor), that Majors, Fulmer, and Dooley will all have been axed after losing to USC?

I don't think it'll save him either.   Too little, too late.

And Sanders, right?

SC is the Vol equivalent of being "CROOMED."  Which, is as it should be because I detest Spurrier and losing to him is a terminable offense in my opinion.  Unfortunately, I have to give the devil his due - but that doesn't mean I have to like it.  I contend to this day he is the reason for Fulmer's downfall.  Not because he beat him consistently, but when Spurrier left FL, Fulmer didn't have an opponent to drive him the way Spurrier did.  That, in my opinion, is when Fulmer got complacent.

NFL coaches have had success coaching college. Caroll and Harbaugh come to mind.

Perhaps, but I submit it was the lack of discipline on the offensive side of the football.  Fulmer was not by nature a disciplinarian.  Cut and the Chief did that.  When Cut left he lost an effective OC.  Yeah we won for a couple of year, on inertia but eventually the weakness of Sanders crippled us.  The return of Cut brought a brief return but only briefly.

It's all about the staff he could put together, IMO.  Assuming there is enough $$$ for it, Gruden could put together a helluva group of coaches.
