1) Do the Banks to the 'Boro tales have legs?
2) If he does depart, who (Derek Mason fanboy here) takes his place?
3) Are there any ramifications if this unlikely event occurs?
I don't think he's been bad as a DC, but it would have been nice to young guys get more snaps.

If CJH goes his usual direction then Brian Jean Mary would be the leading candidate (or God forbid, Martinez)
My preference would be Alex Grinch (he and Heup were on the Mizzou staff together 1 year) Did well as the DC at OU
Zach Arnett would be a 2nd choice
Never been a fan of Derek Mason. His defenses at Stanford and candy NEVER impressed me as being that good, at all

Mizzou's defenses sucked when Heupel was there. OU's mantra has usually been outscore the other team. So is Grinch really the guy for DC? Coaches need to get off the friend train and hire the best candidate available. Friend hires tend to be let hang around too long if they don't produce. Won't fire them because they're a friend.

Please, please, please no on Martinez. I loved it when he was at UGA.
As for Grinch, he was terrific at WSU, but then seems to have fallen off a cliff.

Heupel should have kept Kevin Steele when he arrived.

The only place where I am seeing Banks associated with MTSU is from Basilio. I have also read that Jerry Mack would be a candidate.

How many "friends" does Heupel have on the current staff? Banks was at PSU IIRC, no contact with Heupel prior to coaching at UT. So....

Martinez he hired at the end at UCF and brought up and Eck and Heup were grad assistance together at OU On offense I think Jerry Mack is the only tyotal newbe Pope and the Abeln are new Heup here at Tennessee Elarbee and Halzle have been with Heup a LONG time
