3676  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: 2011 season prediction (long) on: August 17, 2011, 08:00:11 EDT
I think SC will be lower scoring, and I'd take Carolina, but otherwise I think it's good. Arkansas and Bama are the two games I think it'll be really tough to win, but I think we can split UF, UGA, LSU and SC.

We can't drop a cheap one.
3677  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I'm gonna be a daddy next Wednesday, the 17th on: August 17, 2011, 05:00:46 EDT
Have fun tomorrow Vinnie! You'll do great!
3678  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Just listened to Jackie Sherril on expansion.... on: August 16, 2011, 11:12:08 EDT
1) I'd prefer things stay as they are now.

2) However, expansion will come and it's going to be a race for the best markets. With that in mind it's better to be proactive.

3) 20 teams isn't far-fetched. Part of expansion is playing defense and keeping valuable properties away from competitors. UNC, Duke, NC State, VT, UVA, Maryland and FSU are all valuable.

I could see three conference made up of the most valuable teams and another conference made up of o.k., but not great teams like WVU, Clemson, etc.

The Mississippi schools should be very thankful they ended up where they are.

C'mon, ya'll remember Billy "White Shoes" Johnson. White shoes are fine.
3680  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I'm not an old fogey about many things but on: August 16, 2011, 08:25:42 EDT
I don't care if it looks like Pippie Longstocking's if he hits 60% of his passes and has a 2:1 TD:Int ratio.
3681  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Lance Thompson's comment on Curt Maggitt on: August 15, 2011, 04:13:30 EDT
Mayo is easily in that group, but otherwise we haven't been that great.
3682  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Lance Thompson's comment on Curt Maggitt on: August 15, 2011, 05:36:48 EDT
Were I not so lazy I'd pull my comment I put about him just after signing day. I know nothing about football, but he jumped out big-time.
3683  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: FSU to the SEC? on: August 12, 2011, 06:37:49 EDT
I'd be fine with OU only if they come alone. If they're a package deal leave them.

FSU doesn't seem to add much to our footprint, BUT they're a good defensive move since adding them keeps other conferences out of Florida (Miami has limited local appeal).

North Carolina has too big a population and too high a growth rate to ignore so at some point we need to do something there.

Below are the 19 most populous states according to the 2010 Census.

What they dont realize is that money would never make it to any university unless it is for athletics in some shape or fashion.

Bingo Emeril. They just don't get it. TallVol also makes a good point about ridding a program of miscreants, be they coaches or players.

I think you've got to be careful, but I would hate for a coach never to give a kid a chance. Maybe the kid blows the chance, but I love seeing a borderline kid make it. If this comes to fruition those kids won't get a chance. To me that's unconscionable - especially since most are taking taxpayer money to serve the public.

That's not meant in a political way, btw. If it's deemed as such feel free to remove it.
3685  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: NCAA approves draconian APR adjustment on: August 12, 2011, 03:44:49 EDT
As if academics didn't already appear to be wholly divorced from reality...

This is nuts. Methinks power conferences are a step toward doing away with the NCAA.
3686  Sports / VTTW Message Board / 2011 Rules on: August 09, 2011, 09:06:12 EDT
This has been discussed before, but here's a fairly succinct summation of the rule changes this year. I am not a fan of taking points off the board and am concerned about the head and neck calls. Protecting is great, but it can be hard to see this clearly from across the field.

3687  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What about the greatest play? on: August 09, 2011, 07:00:40 EDT
The Duff play has to be there with Kent's and Graham's scores from that game. In fact, it's probably ahead of them given who he stopped.

I'd forgotten about Darren Miller's score against Iowa. I think Terry McDaniel ran interference the whole way. If memory serves (it frequently does not) that may have been Reggie Cobb's first game.
3688  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What about the greatest play? on: August 09, 2011, 03:16:35 EDT
Even though the game ended on a sour note Shuler's TD pass to Faulkner at Legion Field in '93, along with Garner's TD run broke a couple of Bama streaks.
3689  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What about the greatest play? on: August 09, 2011, 04:04:57 EDT
Marion Hobby's game against Auburn in '89 also deserves mention. I think he had 3 PBUs, including the one that ended the game.
3690  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What about the greatest play? on: August 09, 2011, 04:03:42 EDT
I'm only tossing out ones I haven't seen listed.

- Tony Robinson's 39 yard scramble against Auburn in '85 (no TD, but a tone setter)
- Jeff Powell
- Pick a sack in the '86 Sugar Bowl
- Heath Shuler's run against UGA in '92
- Jay Graham's run against Bama in '95
- Reggie Cobb's run against Auburn in '89
- Carl Pickens for 87 yards and a TD against Auburn in '91
- Little Man Stewart for 78 (?) yards against UGA in '92
- Leonard Scott's kickoff return for a TD against UGA in '99

1) Congratulations on your new job!

2) I believe one of Shug Jordan's offspring lives in West Knoxville.

How much can we expect out of Bohannon, Walls and Fowlkes?
3695  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Ben Martin may be on: August 03, 2011, 11:46:20 EDT
Is it logical to think he could get 5-10 snaps a game the first half of the season, and 15-20 the final games? I'd settle for that.
3696  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Cody Blanc of Knoxville Central has verballed to UT this morning. on: July 22, 2011, 06:00:14 EDT
I was really impressed by his clips on Youtube. The guy has a TON of big plays. Bear in mind I'm an ignorant fan, but he jumped out in a big way.

BTW, how many spots do we have left and many commits project as early enrollees?

3698  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: For those who aren't listening in... on: July 20, 2011, 08:20:43 EDT
1) Can someone provide a brief synopsis? Has Slive taken the golden goose out behind the barn to prepare it for dinner, or is doing something sensible for once? I'm not holding out hope for the latter.

2) Uh Wes, I'm frequently bored in meetings, but I have just barely enough intelligence to not let it show. It's a good way to keep your job - unlike reading VTTW as much as I do.
3699  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The Texas Longhorn network is going to broadcast HS football games.... on: July 20, 2011, 05:30:35 EDT
If that is ruled legal...

My guess is the top 10 recruits' games somehow get televised every year.
3700  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Another commit on: July 20, 2011, 05:12:31 EDT
O.k., I'm puzzled, especially since Byron Moore has 3 years left. It's possible Nash Nances leaves and obviously Simms will, but my thought is you can offer near the end to get a third QB. Oh well, I'll see how everything shakes out in February.
