Anybody think we could make a run at Mike Gundy? I think he's a good coach. He's an Okie State grad though.

I would remind everyone that Les Miles came from Okie State.

With all the money that T Boone Pickens has donated to OSU, I am pretty sure they can pay to make him stay.  As good as OSU was this year, he may not be looking to move anyway.

But he is a MAN!  Even if he's not FORTY YEARS OLD!  anymore.

If a grad of a BCS school that has the ability to reach deep into its pockets and that has proven its ability to compete on the BCSNC stage can't be relied upon to stay at his home school, how can UT ever again hope to find someone committed to UT for the long haul?

That's why we should've never fired Fulmer.

Anyone that is going to be in the hall of fame for coaching tirades is ok in my book.

We better make a splash hire like that to generate some excitement or we will continue to be stuck where we are.

There will be several viable candidates for UT if and when that time comes, but don't expect Gundy.  He is at his dream school, his alma mater, built them into a contender and has Picken's money to make sure his needs are satisfied (not just compensation, but program and facilities resources).  I just can't see him doing the mercenary thing at UT or any other place, unless he drives OSU into the ground and is no longer welcomed there.

UT will be better served to look at young coordinators, and take a chance on an up-and-comer who they think has the charisma and work ethic to flat-out recruit.

He's not wrong about Gundy though... he's about to sign what sounds like a 7-10 year contract.

As far as the up and coming coordinator, UT fans don't want to hear that right now.

I would like us to look at Dantonio from Michigan State (and I was thinking that even before they beat uga).  Saban went from there to the SEC and did great.  Dantonio has had more success at Mich State than Saban did.  Cincy fans loved him when he was there.  They say Brian Kelly won with all the talent Dantonio brought in.  This senior class for Mich St. had the best record of any class they have ever had.  Heart issues aside, I think he would be the best hire we could possibly make.

If we knew we could get him, I would like to get him now.  There is very little continuity anyway with 3 assistants now gone.  If we can't get him or Boise's coach or TCU's coach, then we wait and see what happens in '12.  The only way you fire Dooley now is if you KNOW that you can make a phenomenal hire.

Oh, I've never considered Gundy an option. He just asked for a $1.5 million raise which I suspect he gets. He pretty much can write his own ticket at Okie State.

I was merely poking a little fun at the up-and-comer comment.

I like Dantonio as an option. Good coach, if he's healthy.

I think Petersen and Patterson are staying right where they are.

I've always said that someone at their respective schools must have pictures of those guys in compromising positions with little boys.  In light of recent events, maybe that's not so funny anymore.  Still, seems odd that both of them have remained in those jobs for so long.

Not sure what the deal is with Patterson, though truth to tell, I have also not heard his name often floated for openings .  For instance, I don't think he was mentioned in connection with OSU, but ICBW.

As for Peterson, word is his son has cancer and one of the best treatment places for that is near Boise State, perhaps even in Idaho.   For that reason, I have never considered him a viable option.

Peterson just got a 5 year extension I think
