If some programs don't care about traditional rivalries, then let's put that to the test.  Let's just drop divisional play and rotate all 14 teams equally through each other's schedule.  That would mean that in some years, we'd lose the Iron Bowl.  Or the WLOCP.  Or the Egg Bowl.  I would bet that those schools wouldn't be so keen on THAT idea.

They don't care about anyone else's traditional rivalries, but when THEIR rivalries are threatened, they'll sing a different tune.

This is 100% on the money.

Slive will ruin this league chasing a dollar.
28  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Alabummer QBs "underperform" on: April 22, 2014, 01:09:33 EDT

If our QB situation is no better than what we showed, the docs may have to surgically remove that achilles heel. Hopefully Sims will get better, and Coker will arrive in June, and while he has talent he also has very little experience. I've seen many talented QB's with great arms become average on the field. It takes a lot more than just talent.

BG

The way UT's luck has been running, whoever is the qb will look like an all pro when we play. Still it is my great hope kiffin torpedo's your team with his divisive personality.    If there is any coach who can alienate the players and turn them against each other it is kiffin.
29  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Does anyone know when the O & W replay will be shown? on: April 15, 2014, 03:17:53 EDT
South Carolina was on tv. Unfortunately I don't think the SEC network is why we aren't being shown.

vent and pump it out.

This. Large apartment complex in town put in vents when building for possible radon issues. Probably the only building in town that has anything like it.
31  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Anybody keeping up with the Pro Day stats? on: April 03, 2014, 06:26:37 EDT
Thats why its a 4 to 5 year min rebuilding job instead of 2 or 3. Heck it may take 6 or 7 years to overcome the fall unless he processes a lot of players like Saban.

Yeah, that's a real eye opener.  And we still have 3 classes (or 3 1/2 counting redshirts) just like that to move through the system.  Kind of puts in perspective what a huge rebuilding job Butch took on.
32  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Discuss on: March 30, 2014, 02:41:02 EDT
Does not really matter if he stays or goes. UT basketball is what it is, until we make a homerun hire and the university works to keep him and help him be successful. Switching to Nike will not hurt and may help attract a coach and a few more players.
33  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Decent preview of the game on: March 27, 2014, 09:23:55 EDT
I suspect that michigan will try to drive the ball more than usual early to try and get Stokes and Maymon in foul trouble. The Maymon matchup will likely be where this is tried to see if Stokes will help to get him in foul trouble. I also expect their big man to flop like a fish early to try and get a cheap foul on Stokes. They will still shoot plenty of 3's but I just expect this to be part of their gameplan also.
34  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I see that a lot of MLB pitchers are having Tommy John surgery. Some big on: March 26, 2014, 11:33:16 EDT
The explanation I heard was that it can be blamed on the travel squads and youth baseball that is almost a year-round job now.  So pitchers throw more, harder, and overwork their arms froma young age.  By the time you get to be 25 now, you have the arm of 40 year old cause you have overworked it.  That is the story a pitcher having Tommy John's said.

I suspect that is exactly the reason. A lot of those kids throw multiple games in a weekend too, plus play the field making long throws. That is on the coaches and parents though.

Anything that can go against a UT team has for the past several years maybe? The game was gonna be tough enough to win without the other team having a reason to play harder for their coach. If Iowa came in on a down note this will likely inspire them (even more) to play hard.

Maybe our guys will rally around Martin because of the Pearl fiasco as well, but the court of public opinion tonight in the arena will be that UT is incompetent and Iowa's coach and team are trying to overcome a serious hardship just to compete tonight. Everyone will feel sorry for the guy and as I said, the neutral fans and maybe even the refs will be sympathetic toward Iowa. It would be human nature to do so, and the game will hard enough on its own without all this surrounding drama.

Just seems like more of the same we have been dealing with for years now.

having surgery before the game to remove a thyroid tumor and how the coach will try and be in both places tomorrow. The neutral fans will cheer for Iowa and the refs will already feel a bit sorry for their coach. When it rains it pours. No way we have a chance to win this game unless we play out of minds. (ya know in a good way not like regular)

My gosh how long will it take for this black cloud to finally go away.

A lot of that has to do with the competition as well. Still they are playing better regardless. Barton has finally come on and Maymon is moving better and decided he wanted to be the garbage guy, thats his role on  this team. Our freshman pg played at 50% yesterday.....half the time he would make a horrible play and then come back and make a good one. May have hit the wall. Barton has taken some pressure off of McRae and when did Armani Moore learn to shoot? That came out of left field.

That said if they play with  the effort they gave yesterday they would not be a bubble team. I still think we are limited from a talent standpoint, and if we play a quicker team, or a team with a real post player we will have problems again. We may make the tourney but I don't see over 1 win if we do, depending on brackets, seeding and upsets of course.

That said UF is benefiting from a bad league as well. When they play someone better they may have issues too, although they are the class of the league from coaching to talent.
41  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Basement questions on: March 09, 2014, 01:54:04 EST
But existing construction is grandfathered in and counties can opt out.

Yes, but I think his house is too new for that, (should have met ICC code) and any construction done now would or should have to meet present code regardless if there is any enforcement in that particular county or not. It is a statewide code, the only opt out is for enforcement purposes. The state can pursue and fine or prosecute licensed or unlicensed (but exceed 25K in job cost) contractors who do substandard work regardless if that county has opted out of enforcement or not.

The state just recently put out information for bids to hire people for inspection of and enforcement of the aforementioned contractors. I suspect they have hired these people by now. I checked into it but would interfere with my present job too much for part time work.
42  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Basement questions on: March 08, 2014, 10:51:03 EST
TN has adopted the ICC codes. I am required to keep 6 ICC certifications to do my job, which is monitored by the State.

I am sure it would be with Slive's blessing too, unless we hired him back.
45  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Given the circumstances and what was at stake, I think this was Peyton's... on: January 20, 2014, 05:43:05 EST
Well both guys are great qb's but anyone who thinks Peyton is not as good as Brady is only kidding themselves. Peyton never had the opportunity or team behind him that Brady has. Brady fell into his 1st superbowl when whats his name got hurt, which proves there was already a complete team there. Peyton's Colts were never built to run the ball or play strong defense, so they completely depended on Peyton being great every week to win.

Just take a look at what the Pats did the year Brady was out...won 10 or 11 games. Manning was out a year...won what 3 or 4 games? This game Peyton finally had a better team and guess what Brady couldn't win with a worse team either.

I am not surprised the talking heads are pointing out all the missing pieces the Pats had. Regardless they lost Bronco's won and with  the game not being in Seattle it will make the game more even. I think it puts Seattle in a bind as they will need to score more than they have the last few weeks. Their defense is very good, but I figure Peyton will get some points. The problem the Broncos have to watch out for is the quirky interception that follows Peyton.

Hard game to handicap for sure.
46  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The Patriots - why the hate? on: January 13, 2014, 03:49:22 EST
Well I listened to espn radio yesterday while the 9er's and Panthers. It was a snapshot of why. Dude running the program called the "coach" IDK what his name is, but I have seen him set in for Mike & Mike some. He went on and on and on how Peyton's legacy was at stake (somewhat) if they lost yesterday, and how he had such a great season statistically and seemed to say that Peyton was playing for stats this year in a round about way. Tom Brady on the other hand was only concerned about winning........so much so that he was willing not to throw a td pass against the Colts. If Manning had did the same, the comments would be that Peyton is playing bad and can't get it done anymore.

The media has always disliked Manning in favor of other players. Comments concerning him are always Peyton is one of the greatest but......
They are so far into the hate they either don't realize it or do not care. If I heard him say it once yesterday during that program I heard 50 times.....Peyton was playing for his legacy yesterday. This week the subtle loathing for Peyton and the man crush for Brady will hit a fever pitch this week.
47  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: wow...Cuonzo got horribly outcoached on: January 12, 2014, 01:53:05 EST
Well, I've theorized before that it's because one school is getting ALL of the really good players right now.  It's undeniable that the SEC was much stronger top to bottom before Cal got to Lexington (and the fact that Pearl was still in the league helped, too).

No doubt the jelly get a lot of players, but there is still enough out there to have some really good teams. After thinking about it, I suppose part of it is because the league does not go out and pay for good coaches. Why would we fire Zo if we are not going to spend the money to get a good coach?

If saban can bring kiffin back in the league then we can bring Pearl back.
48  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: wow...Cuonzo got horribly outcoached on: January 12, 2014, 05:32:28 EST
Watched a little of the 1st half.....we looked like the better team. Watched a little of the 2nd half.....A&M looked like the better team. Looked like we took a lot of bad shots late in the game.....that would be typical. Still don't think this team is all that talented. Can't win consistently without it.

I do not understand why the SEC cannot be just as good at BB as FB?
49  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Just got a tweet...Kiffin to bammer! on: January 11, 2014, 02:47:09 EST
I wish him the same success he had at UT, both in recruiting and public relations.

I am anxious to see how Slive reacts to this. I am guessing he will be ok with him now.
50  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I hope I'm wrong but I just don't have a good feeling about Denver on: January 09, 2014, 04:39:32 EST
Chargers have been playing tough football the last few weeks. Defense is getting it done and they are possessing the ball on offense and scoring.

Truthfully, they have been the better team lately. Still with all of that said, their margin for error in this game is slim. Denver's offense will eventually start scoring, and if the Chargers have any turnovers it may get ugly.
