I've been thinking a little about this - it seems that Tn fans, and most of the south, and basically anyone that doesn't live in the NE area hates the Patriots. Why though? People in the south, including TN, don't really have anything vested in them. They are from a historically rich area of the country, and the Boston area is about as American as it gets. They're called the Patriots for goodness sakes. Even I don't like the Patriots, and I am not sure why. After thinking about it though, I think there are a number of very compelling reasons to not like this team.

1 - Bill Belichick - He comes off as a total prick, and he's a cheater. He's the coach everyone loves to hate as he frowns on the sideline. I'll admit he's a guy I don't like, and I don't know him personally, so why not?
2 - The Tom Brady Factor - Let's face it, the guy lives a great life, and most guys are jealous. He's just flat out good, has good looks, money, super bowl rings, and is married to a supermodel.
3 - Brady vs Peyton - Oh yes, he has the upper hand here, especially in the playoffs, and UT fans (rightly) don't like that. This is also hyped up a lot in the media.
4 - The keep winning. Lost players to injury? trades? murder charges? Doesn't matter, they keep on keeping on. On paper it doesn't look like they should be where there are, but they are. They're winners.
5 - The Yankee factor. There's not a place more Yankee than New England and Boston. There is a perception that the fans there are snobbish. Is it true? I don't think it really is, but the perception is there. I personally don't care about the yankee vs south thing, but it strikes a chord with a large % of southerners.
6 - Media darlings. ESPN is located in New England, and some feel that they hype them up and play favorites. I am not sure that is true, but again...perception.

so...why do YOU hate the Patriots?

#1, #3, #6. The rest are not relevant to me. Both Brady and Belichick are great at what they do and have for the most part been worthy of the praise they've received, but Belichick is a prick and the cheating scandal was a significant turnoff for most people. Beyond that, it's really just the "rivalry" between Peyton and Brady-- overblown by the media-- that makes me root for their demise.

Well I listened to espn radio yesterday while the 9er's and Panthers. It was a snapshot of why. Dude running the program called the "coach" IDK what his name is, but I have seen him set in for Mike & Mike some. He went on and on and on how Peyton's legacy was at stake (somewhat) if they lost yesterday, and how he had such a great season statistically and seemed to say that Peyton was playing for stats this year in a round about way. Tom Brady on the other hand was only concerned about winning........so much so that he was willing not to throw a td pass against the Colts. If Manning had did the same, the comments would be that Peyton is playing bad and can't get it done anymore.

The media has always disliked Manning in favor of other players. Comments concerning him are always Peyton is one of the greatest but......
They are so far into the hate they either don't realize it or do not care. If I heard him say it once yesterday during that program I heard 50 times.....Peyton was playing for his legacy yesterday. This week the subtle loathing for Peyton and the man crush for Brady will hit a fever pitch this week.

It starts and ends with Bellichek and the cheating for me.  I get sick of people - such as Colin Cowherd, one of the biggest Patriot taint lickers anywhere - going on and on about how Brady is better than Peyton in cold weather, has more rings, etc, etc, while COMPLETELY IGNORING the fact that ALL THREE rings were aided by cheating.  And they won each of those games by a TD or less, so one could make a strong case that the cheating really mattered.  And, oh yeah, no Super Bowls since...is that a coincidence (although I have to admit their two losses to the Giants were close).

Of course, I have never liked New England anyway, which goes back to the fact that my first favorite team in the NFL, when I was still in elementary school, was the Dolphins.  Add to that the fact that I am a Colts and Peyton fan, well...there isn't a dam thing to like about New England!

And yes, the media fawning makes it worse...Cowherd is from the East and works in Bristol, and he is just one of the "ESPN cheerleaders" of the New England Patriots.   But what irks me most is that they constantly bring up the rings and NEVER...repeat NEVER...mention the cheating.

This is a huge game for me and my son.  His wife's family are all Patriot fans - several of them have had season tickets for decades and Gillette Stadium is just about 10 minutes from my son's in-laws house.  They obviously love Tom Brady and despise Peyton Manning.  We need a win, especially if this is to be Manning's last game against Brady, which is a really good possibility.

Why do I hate the Patriots?  Because they are the Patriots.  Does anybody really need another reason?

My first roomate in the barracks in the AF was from Maaaahtha's Vinyud.  Spend enough time with the Bawstun sports fan and you'd hate them too.  Ditto for the Sox, Celts, and Bruins.

But yeah, Bellichick and the cheating elevates my opinion of the Pats to something more than mere "hate".  As Bandit said, they may not have won ANY of those SBs without cheating.  Yet Bellichick and Brady get recognized as all-time greats based largely on their 3 rings.

The only redeeming quality Baastan has is the fresh New England lobster.

Yep.  Cape Cod is as good as it gets when it comes to fresh seafood.  Can't beat it anywhere.

Because it is so easy with Belichick as HC.  Notice he has not won a Super Bowl since he cannot cheat any more?

And another reason?  Because they are New England Patriots and should all be thrown in the Boston Harbor.  It worked once, you know.

Two additional reasons:

7.  The Patsies (Bilichick and Brady combo) prevented my Steelers from reaching at least 2 more Super Bowls early in Brady's career.

8.  The media credits this combo as best of all time, but doesn't count their Super Bowl losses against them.  After the Patsies latest lost to the Giants, one media member (can't remember who) said the Super Bowl losses in "no way, shape or form" tarnishes their legacies.  Come on, it has to!

Exactly.  So...uhhh...the legacy is already tarnished!
