Kifflin passing on Tajh Boyd, then Butch not utilizing Kamara, really helped the team become unproductive.

But the point that gets overlooked is that he wasn't going to help until his third year out of high school. If you will remember he hurt his knee his senior year and had surgery during the summer, which made it necessary to redshirt his first year. He didn't get back until a full year later, and he played very sparingly as a redshirt freshman. He didn't win the starting job at Kliempsein until in to his sophomore season. Yep, he has a tremendous college career, but it took him a while to get there and UT didn't have time to wait. They needed immediate help.
The one Kiffin really screwed up on was Bryce Petty. He ended up redshirting and backing up RG3 for three years at Baylor before he got on the field for any significant snaps. I do think the coaches gave Hurd too many touches compared to Kamara, but mental issues aside, it's not like Hurd was chopped liver either.
