Yeah.
To this day, one of my greatest memories from attending a live game is the "Katrina game" in BR in 2005. Pirate and I were there. They were kicking our arses near half time, Ainge made quite a few blunders. So this very obnoxious (and of course
VERY drunk) cajun next to Pirate and I started running his mouth about "I hope they put Rick Clausen in so we can kick his ass" right before halftime. (Recall that Rick transferred from LSU). Well. He got his wish. But....THEY were the ones that got thier collective asses kicked! And he left before our RB dived over and put the finishing touch on them, I think in OT.
That was one of the more satisfying smack downs of an opposing fan in my career as a fan. Only thing bad about him leaving early is that I didn't get chance to rub it in (then again, might have avoided a fight
). But during the second half, I did loudly wonder what he thought about Rick Clausen now. That was epic.
But their fans did shout "tiger bait" at Pirate and I quite a bit on our walk into the stadium. It didn't feel really hostile though, just good natured ribbing. The guy to our right OTOH was an arsehole.
I also bitterly recall taunts after the 2001 upset. Very poor sportsmanship on the part of some of their fans, a bit of a yelling match, my BIL telling me to STFU and I listened since I was sober.
Definitely not a fan base known to be polite, to say the least.
FIFY
Don't forget the L$U admin closed school to enable the students to get liquored up in time for the game
Also, don't forget the rocking the team busses and throwing a beer bottle into a team bus window and cracking it (waste of cheap beer IMO - but nobody ever accused the corndogs of being intelligent)
One other thing I remember about that night, besides asking the now semi drunk corndog why he was leaving, as he got his wish,
was chest bumping Trooper Taylor after the game and darn near getting cracked ribs in the process
Also, Clausen came out in a walking boot after the game
An enjoyable evening but a long day and night, then a longer Tuesday as I flew up to STL from Jackson and was in meetings all day at Mother MAC, then flew home to Dayton
