Title: Not sure I understand why we'd take a commit from a specialist this year...
Post by: Black Diamond Vol on July 31, 2011, 12:16:37 EDT
...especially since we just signed two of them last year, and our numbers are limited.  I trust Dooley and all, but this is a head scratcher to me.

Title: this guy is pretty impressive

In late June I took my grandson to UT kicking camp and this guy won the competition.  If I remember, he won final with a FG of 50 or 55.  There was some pretty good competition and he certainly was the best.

George Bullard, kicker out of Knox West.  No rating on Rivals, which isn't unusual for a kicker.

Could it have anything to do with Palardy's nagging leg injury?

Bullock has a strong leg, but I'm really surprised we offered at this time.  His only other offer so far was Navy.  With limited numbers to give this year, and lots of needs to fill, it seems to me like this one could have waited.

On the other hand, the fact that we offered and accepted a commitment now suggests to me that one of the kickers currently on scholarship may not be come next fall.

If only Lincoln had never been on schollie.... :frown:

I rarely if ever criticize a player per se, but I make an exception for him.  Bad, bad, bad, BAD kicker for a school like UT with the kicking tradition we have.  He cost us at least 4 games, including perhaps bammer in 2009.

I heard this discussed on SportsTalk this afternoon, albeit a brief discussion. With the DL at strained levels, we need to pack 'em in. However if this guy can kick it through the endzone on all the KO's, I think I'd jump on him, too. If he can pin the opposing team at  their 20 after each of our scores or open a half, as I hear he can, that is a temendous advantage in feild position.

Can he punt?
