Title: Place your bets...
Post by: BigOrange Maniac on December 20, 2011, 04:44:59 EST
1.) Does Jim Tressel get off lighter than Bruce Pearl, despite his transgressions being far more egregious?

2.) Does Ohio State get off too light considering the nature of the crime?

My bets:

1.) Yes. Two-year show cause, max.

2.) Yes. Scholly losses only, despite the failure to monitor charge. No postseason ban, though there should be.

1.  If Bruce got a three year show-cause, Tressell deserves at least 5.  I'll bet he gets no more than 2.

2.  OSU has already self imposed a reduction of 5 schollies over 3 years.  If the NCAA doesn't rubber stamp that, they'll do no worse than double it, which is still a joke.

Looks like the NCAA will increase the self-imposed probation from 2 years to 3 years, increase the self-imposed scholly reductions from 5 to 9 over 3 years, and slap tOSU with a 1-year bowl ban.

Could've and should've been worse.

All I'm seeing is "show cause" for Tressel. Any idea on how many years? If he gets less than three... that's the thing I will be pissed about. As far as OSU goes, I think the penalties are fair with the 1 year bowl ban.

I saw a tweet that said 5 years but I think that was speculation.

Ohio St should have been given a 2-yr bowl ban IMO.

I think one is fair because they fired Tressel. Like it or not, firing a coach is part of the self-imposition process, as UT undoubtedly learned when they escaped the NCAA unscathed.

The Columbus dispatch tweeted that it was five years, but the article they linked didn't specify it.

According to AP

1. Bowl ban in 2012
2. Added one year to probation
3. Increased scholarships lost
4. Tressel got 5 year show-cause

Not a slap on the wrist.

Not a slap on the wrist, though it could, and probably should, have been more severe. Bet the folks at USC can't be too happy about it.
