Title: Good grief, where all y'all coming up with this 9 win goal?
Post by: Jethro on January 05, 2012, 10:00:31 EST
Looking at this schedule, I would say that there is a better chance of Mariah Carey sitting on my face than of the Vol team I saw playing this year winning 9 games against this slate.   :wow:  What are the games that you concede that the Vols might lose and still be on the right track?  I'm guessing at GA, Bamar and at SC?  There are a lot of tossup games in that scenario and we would have to win ALL of them (at Miss St, NC St in Atlanta, Mizzou and FL at home).  I'm gonna say
Saturday

Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
Saturday
09/08/12   Panthers   Georgia State Panthers
Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN

Title: I think the point was that the team next year is expected to be much improved.

lose Bray and Hunter off the bat again then I'd expect only slightly better results than last year, only because Worley should be much better prepared to step in and I'm hoping that the run game is going to be much better which would help the offensive production. I don't think any one would expect last years team, as it existed for most of the season, to win 9 games next year.

The point is, we don't expect to see the same Vol team we saw last year.  Not just with injuries, but with attitude and effort.  When I say I "expect" 9 wins, that's the magic number it will take for me to stay in Dooley's corner.  Do I think that we actually win that many?  Frankly, no- not with the undisciplined play I saw this year.  But that's what it will take.  I think most SEC coaches could coax at least 9 wins out of a team with 19 returning starters against this schedule, so why should we expect any less of our own?

The only shot we have at 9 starts with NC State. We drop that and you can forget it. I see 6 we should win. We need 3 more out of the rest and truthfully two of those need to be NC State and Missouri.

I don't expect 9 wins. I want 9. I expect mediocrity because I'm afraid we have a mediocre coach.

Short of 9, I will want a coaching change. People need to stop being OK with mediocre. It will be year 3 with 3 recruiting classes. It is time for a big step forward.

8 will save him though.
