Need receiver, blue ray and speakers. 4 of the speakers will be in the wall.

I have an Onkyo 7.1 surround setup in my living room and I don't know how I ever did without it.  :dude:

Here's what I'm currently using in my setup.  I really like Denon receivers- from what I've seen, they are by far the easiest to set up, and this is the best sounding receiver I've ever had.  And these Energy speakers have been an Editor's Choice on CNet for a few years now.  If you're looking for small speakers, you won't do better for the money.  As for Blu-ray, they're all pretty much the same anymore as far as disc playback goes.  But you might want to look for one that offers streaming services that you don't currently have (Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon, Hulu, etc.).

Oh, and get a Harmony remote.  I can't stress that enough. :thumbup:

I am Yamaha all the way, receiver, speakers including 2 in wall (I prefer 5.1).  I couldn't be happier, but, what I always say is, go listen to them.  There will be subtle differences in pitch and tone, but everyone's ear is different, so you will probably have a preference.  Echo the Harmony remote.  No recommendation on Blu-Ray, I stream everything via DLNA.

Working off Vinnie's recommendation, I bought an Onkyo system. I wound up taking it back simply because it didn't fit my room (installation was going to be a pain in the rear; I decided to wait until I remodel) but it was everything I expected and then some. When I do get one it will be an Onkyo for sure.

This thread made me curious to see what the latest and greatest was so I went to Onkyo's website.  :wow:

Was it a 5.1 or 7.1 system?  7.1 requires a large, oblong shaped room for proper speaker placement.  90% of us can probably do with 5.1. 

True.  Fortunately my living room is a big rectangle.  I remember playing RDR, pausing it, going to the front door to see who was on the porch.

Have an Onkyo 7.1 receiver with 4 speakers mounted on the wall in my man-cave...errr the family den, with 54 in. plasma TV.  I could not be happier. The receiver came with a set-up speaker to set the response and delay automatically and with on-screen set-up.  It hooks up to the internet and I can get web-based radio should I choose.
