Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Post by: Clockwork Orange on August 01, 2012, 09:53:40 EDT Patterson is a big, a strong guy. I've heard that said many times but from looking at that pic he's really about the same size as Da'Rick and not that much smaller than Rivera.
And they say he runs a 4.39 and has a 39" vertical. :wow: Being a freak athlete doesn't make you a great player, but it sure as hell helps. When they go to 3 WR I actually think Hunter is going to work in the slot based on some stuff I've read. Provided he's healthy, can you imagine Hunter being covered by a LB or S? Then CP and Da'Rick can bully the smaller corners on the outside with their strength. I still worry about defense and running and that's why I'm still in show-me mode, but the weapons are there on offense. No doubt about it. I still worry about defense and running and that's why I'm still in show-me mode, but the weapons are there on offense. No doubt about it. The question about the passing game is whether it can all come together in a consistent fashion. Da'Rick is the only one to have shown something for a whole season at this point, though in flashes we have seen the undeniable talent in Bray, and Hunter has looked dominant outside of his injury. Rivera is a reliable target at TE and probably an NFL draft pick, and we know the expectations for Patterson. But how many games have these guys played together, and in how many games have they shown the explosiveness we are all expecting? Not many, really. I'm a believer anyway. It's just hard to see that group failing to have a big year unless freak things happen, as they did last year. But it really is crazy how little track record there is of this thing hitting on all cylinders. Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Post by: Inspector Vol on August 01, 2012, 10:41:48 EDT Bray looks a little bigger, Hunter is built like a gazelle, Rogers is really muscled, Rivera is stocky but leaner looking, Patterson is broader than Darick but not as muscled. We know what kind of talent each possesses so the only we should have a bad game moving the ball is if Bray has a bad game. That is why we desperately need a run game. A good defensive plan can confuse a qb, but they still have to respect it so the run game should have ample help in achieving its goal. If we can't run the ball this year then Chaney will have to go next even if Dooley stays.

Post by: Volznut on August 02, 2012, 12:34:44 EDT Serious firepower on offense
I actually think the defense will be good vs the run. Much bigger and stronger on the DL, with more depth. The starting LBs are also going to be good. IMO the question mark is the secondary, and they will be helped if we get a better rush Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... If what you state above proves to be true, I am all for it. I'm a big fan of the blitz. Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Post by: PirateVOL on August 02, 2012, 01:19:32 EDT I never noticed a tendency to not blitz under Thompson, but I wasn't paying that much attention. We rarely blitzed the last couple of years. IT has been a huge drop off from when the Chief prowled the sideline :powert:If what you state above proves to be true, I am all for it. I'm a big fan of the blitz. Title: Re: Re: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Post by: BigOrange Maniac on August 02, 2012, 02:10:05 EDT I thought Wilcox did a good job with what he had to work with and I hated to see UT lose him. But I have my doubts that his bend-but-don't-break approach was going to cut it in the SEC.

Title: Re: "You won't have Tennessee to push around anymore"... Post by: murfvol on August 02, 2012, 03:04:29 EDT Yeah, Wilcox wasn't exactly playing with a full deck. I was fairly happy with the on-field product.

I knew that, but we have been through so many coaches lately. :frown: :toothless: Regardless I like the aggressive approach. Always have. I did notice we didn't seem as aggressive last year, but I didn't track ithat closely. With the new talent we have on the line, experienced starters at LB and a veteran DB corps, I expect improvement this year. Switching coaches is tough, but I think Sunseri can hanlde it, and IMO it will help tremdendously if in fact we are more aggressivel |
