Title: Hurricane Isaac looks like it could be another Katrina. Post by: WoodstockVol on August 27, 2012, 05:41:27 EDT I wonder if the College Football games in Mississippi and Louisiana will be postponed?

That's very good news! Title: Re: Hurricane Isaac looks like it could be another Katrina. Post by: RIPLEYVOL on August 27, 2012, 09:04:42 EDT Small rain shower compared to Katrina!
Title: Re: Hurricane Isaac looks like it could be another Katrina. Post by: Black Diamond Vol on August 27, 2012, 09:07:45 EDT IIRC, Katrina wasn't that strong either until a day or two before landfall. At any rate, NO should be much better prepared this time.

Katrina was a Cat 5 at sea but down to a Cat 3 at landfall. One would hope that NOLA has seen enough infrastructure improvement in the last 7 years that it could withstand a Cat 1-2 without catastrophic damage, but I wouldn't bank on it. It is a city surrounded by a lake, a river, and an ocean, and sitting below all three. Title: Re: Hurricane Isaac looks like it could be another Katrina. Post by: BanditVol on August 28, 2012, 12:50:15 EDT Katrina was much worse due to unusually high temperatures in the gulf, from what I recall. I don't think that's the case this time. Hurricanes feed on energy from warm water. I think the gulf is a bit cooler this time around. I guess we will see though.
