Title: Maggitt with turf toe
Post by: Volznut on September 07, 2012, 02:25:06 EDT
That isn't good. Looks like he will likely sit out this weekend. Hope it's minor and heals quickly, we need him vs FL

Yikes. I think all you can really do for that is rest. Like any other sprain it will take awhile for the ligaments to be back to normal. I hope it's a mild case.

Sit him.  I don't know why we would play Lathers at all, either.

What exactly is turf toe, anyway?

Sprain of the big toe ligaments. It is like a hyperextension . . . imagine pulling your big toe back toward the top of the foot and pulling it too far. With the way football players take and deliver hits and blocks with their toes planted in the ground, it's not uncommon, and my understanding is that the toe is never really the same after the first injury. From here on out it'll just be about management and preventing re-injury.

Good chance for some of the other guys to get reps and build experience.

But of course.  If we're going to have a rash of injuries, it will always be at the position where we can least afford them.  Welcome to UT football. :frown:

Yep, injuries at LB in fall camp are huge. I look for Channing Fugate to get playing time. He did pretty good at FB last year and was the starter for a couple of games. I figured they'd keep him there for depth. So I was really left scratching my head when they switched him to LB. But now, looks like it might have been a really smart move.

Losing him would be devastating. He was a beast rushing the passer. After he shook free of the blocker he looked like he was shot out of a cannon when he sacked Glennon and got the safety.

I understand it is a mild case, but he will be in a walking boot. I bet he doesn't play at all vs GSU

They can fit him with a cleat with a steel shank for support.  This does take a little away from speed and push, though.
