The greenway is no longer blocked off under the Henley St. Bridge construction, so I was able to stroll all the way down to Calhouns and back. Some sights and comments . . .

These houseboats and sport yachts seem to set up semi-permanent residence when there are several home games in a row. In the background you can see the bridge construction.

As for the bridge construction, there is visible progress but it seems there is still an incredible amount of work left to do.

There are a handful of boats tied up at Calhoun's . . . and they are mostly big enough that this is probably part of the Navy as well.

Dad and I had parked at the Kern's bakery and walked across the Henley Bridge to the games for almost as long as I can remember.  Now that that's out, we've been parking at the Coliseum.  I think we actually like it better there.

I'm jealous of you.  I love campus.  Even today if I'm at a game or just killing time in the area I'll park and walk around campus and reminisce.  I miss my college days.

I love it. I don't take walks as often as I did last Fall (first Fall back in East TN after all that time in Florida), but it's still great. I can't wait until some of this construction is done, though . . . you can't turn around without seeing something dug up, torn down, or being built.

Yeah, the huge hole in the ground beside the student center is a gigantic eye-sore.  But fall season on campus, with the orange leaves and all, is really something.  Good times!

Just eye-balling the pics, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make it across the spans of the bridge.  It's a little up and down, sure, but I would think it's worth a shot.   :naughty:

I know people who still park there but they backtrack all the way back to Gay Street.

We are planning to get to campus at about 2:30 or 3:00 tomorrow, and trying to decide where to park. We think we want to grab a bite to eat before heading to the vicinity of the stadium. It seems like the Coliseum would be a great place to park if we wanted to eat on Gay St. or Market Square. Is there free parking over there, or do you pay?

It's either that or we find a spot in the Fort or pay for Tyson park and eat on the strip.

I think it's either $5 or $10 but I'm not sure.  A friend of the family works in one of the garages and she usually lets us park for free.

Is it as easy to get out as it looks? Seems like you could just jump on Hall of Fame and get on 40 in a hurry.

It is very easy to get out.
The most difficult part is getting on a bus after the game.  That can be a long wait
Mom & Dad use the shuttle and like it a lot.  If I'm not going to a tailgate I use it is well. 

I think we would probably walk both directions. The time that takes allows some traffic to clear out anyway. It's about a mile and a half, but we're young not terribly old younger than ReVOLver, anyway.

Oh yeah, couldn't be easier.  But you do know there is a shuttle to and from the stadium from there, which costs $6.  We always walk, though.

Yep, walking gives all the traffic time to clear out.  The roads are wide open by the time we get back to the garage.

I could run that mile and half, sonny.

LOL . . . you can tell where my mind is today.

The only reason I feel old today is from the 300 pushups, 300 body weight squats, 75 burpees, and 300 yard sprint I did. Oh and there was a 2 minute plank too.

I missed two weeks of working out due to ATL, then being sick, and then work, and today was my second day back. I can barely move.

Burpees! That's a blast from the past. I don't think I've done one since gym class in high school.

We've started running; we're 7 weeks into a program ramping up to a 5k. I've always been a terrible runner and lower leg pain (shins, calves, achilles) has always kept me from doing it for any distance at all. But we've taken it slowly, and things are progressing. We're doing about 2-2.2 miles right now, which is better than I could do when I was in the best shape of my life (~10 years ago). Back then, I would run 1/4 mile, be forced to quit, and not be able to walk normally for a week.

Clock, I've been parking at the garage at the corner of State and Clinch for free. It can be a bear to get out of, but it's free. I drop by the Market Square Subway en route to the game and avoid paying these prices and no more - a water excepted.

So yes, the theme of this is I am cheap. BTW, I like what you and Vinnie said about walking around campus. I was in town a couple of weeks ago and "had" to stroll around to see how things were progressing.

We do burpees at least three times a week. I suck at them, even with the weight I lost. We were supposed to do 300 today so you see how far behind I am. Pushups I can do as long as I do sets of 20 and go to my knees when I fatigue out.  Admittedly the last 100 are not close to true pushups. The squats I can rock out.

I suck as a runner. I am very, very slow and always have been. My athletic ability has always been about being quick in small spaces, not running. Also I have lingering knee issues and bad ankles. But I deal with it.

Good luck with your 5K. I've been told I should do one... I could walk / run it with little problem based on some of the stuff we do in BC.

I don't even know what a burpee is, but I played soccer for 70 minutes yesterday in a game with no subs, and I could barely move today, so I can relate.  Quite a bit of Ibuprofen has been consumed.  :biggrin:
