Title: Revolver, you are spot on. I cannot remember a game in my lifetime
Post by: 10EC on September 13, 2012, 05:32:40 EDT
Where the fans are just demanding a win.

Normally, this talk about storming the field and the over-confident posting would have me worried... Now, I just don't care.  They just have no choice. They HAVE to win.

The responses by KPD and Cheek to Internet chatter about rushing the field have me a little freaked out. I know it's not realistic to believe that this has anything to do with the ultimate outcome of the game, but if I were Muschamp, I'd post printed copies of those statements everywhere and work my players into a frenzy. It's not like Florida is not talented.

That being said, there is a swagger and a confidence in the fan base that I have not seen in a long, long time. This is different than hollow fan sentiment where all the fans are wildly picking UT and the experts are not... Every radio guy on 104.5 in Nashville is picking UT... Mark Howard, Clay Travis, Doug Matthews, Brent Dougherty, Frank Wycheck, Blaine Bishop, etc. And they normally are not UT homers.

God help Dooley if they lose.

I still cringe at overconfidence because I am a worrier, but let's be honest . . . if fan and media overconfidence truly jinxed a team into losses, Florida would go 0-fer in the SEC every damn year. Alabama would never win a damn thing. Ohio State would have fallen into a black hole by now.

This just feels different because we are so beaten down and our hopes crushed so many times. So what's happened is many UT fans are in two groups, not mutually exclusive: fans that are broken and can't bear getting their hopes up, and fans that are so high that they think one win in this series is a monumental achievement worthy of crazy celebration. The media and UT/KPD are not exactly helping either of those groups right now.

Great take.

I believe the fan base (and the team) is confident in their play makers versus UF play makers.  I can't remember when we ever had an edge in that going in.  No Tebow, Harvin, Rainey, Green, Anthony etc...  They have an inexperienced QB, a hurt RB and a coach that believes in D first.  Plus, they are going to be going into a VERY hostile environment at night.

I refuse to consider the alternative to winning because I don't even want to contemplate how bad it would be.

The only way I will walk away feeling just awful is if we just don't compete. I don't think that will happen though.

I want to win bad but if we compete our tails off and just get beat by a better team then so be it. I think we finally have a decent enough team to pull it off though. I think the team is confident and they should approach every game like that but we all know the last couple of years that has not been the case.

If we lose to a clearly inferior team (see UK) then I will be disgusted.

For me, worst case scenario is there is all this buildup and we come out and get throttled.  (i.e. '96 TN-UF game)

I shudder at the thought..

I agree with you. Beating UF IS a a monumental achievement worthy of crazy celebration.

I heard them all pick NC St just a few weeks ago. This worries me that they are all picking us now.

Uf has crushed our hopes so many times that i have no confidence we will win. Hope, yes, but if i were betting.....i wouldnt. People forget how many times we looked the favorite only to get hammered by a backup QB.  Uf has had higher rated recruiting classes and prob has alot more talent.  I will not be surprised if they beat the crap out of us.  I will be surprised if we beat the crap out of them. I think Dooley better hide if they stomp our eggs.

Only twice that I know, and both times it was LSU.  Now THERE is a program we owe some payback to, bigtime.
